high reving, slipping cluth??????

hey, i service my bike last week with a service pack and oil from motorworks. When changing the air filter i found that the old one wasn't even in!!!! so today was the first time out, after doing about 30miles the bike cut out on me when doing about 60mph (ish???) but restarted once i got it stopped. Then after that the rev counter started playing up by reading about 3000 more than what i was doing, well i don't think it ticks over at 4500 rpm, so i turned it off and it went back to normal, but the clutch felt like it was slipping a little when opening it up.

Does anyone have any ideas whats wrong or if i've done anything wrong????

oh my bike is a 650gs 2004 with 36k on it.

Did you disconnect the battery during the service by any chance?

I had simular symptoms last summer traced it to a loose battery connection,

Sounds a bit like the air/fuel mixture is upset.... happened be before... mind you a different bike. It cut out three times on the way to work... at one stage it nearly took my head off..... it just rev'ed like sh1t all by its self. Made it to work... took the card off cleaned it.... problem sorted.

So I suppose I'm suggesting some dirt has made it into the fuel jets.

you could try filling the tank and going for a local spin

Try switching the ignition on then opening and closing the throttle fully.
The clutch may slip if you used fully synthetic oil.

i didn't disconnoect the battery, but i never checked if it was loose so will do that tonight.
I used semi synthetic oil 15/40 i think.
oh i forgot to say the top end speed was much slower, could hardly get it above 90.

Did you reconect (if you disconnected it ) the air sensor plug on the air inlet to the filter.
My 650 clutch slipped when i used fully synthetic oil' took 2 flushes with normal mineral oil to stop it.

i didn't disconnect it. just undid the 2 screws and fitted the new filter, clean all the oil that was in the box to.
