Bike was laid up in transit for a few weeks. Took it out for a shakedown and noticed that in 4th the revs were up to 6000 and in 5th almost in the red. I'm a mechanical idiot but have a feeling it may be a clutch problem. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark

It might make diagnosis easier if you said what model/year the bike is.

you should be doing 70 at 4700 rpm or there abouts. If your rpm is higher then your clutch is slipping. Give it 100 miles or so for the oil to activate or something and it should be fine. If not play with the clutch levers pretension

Take it up to about 50mph in 5th hold the throttle at a constant and pull the clutch in briefly and let it out again, if the engine speed climbs and takes a few seconds to get back to the original revs the clutch is slipping, if it goes back to original revs quickly it is OK
