Thinking of popping up for a little tour of the Highlands next week but assume I could be eaten alive ?

I guess that riding my bike shouldn't be a problem and I won't be camping but will it be midge free(ish) walking around a town in the evenings ?

Might go over to the Orkneys while I'm that way which I'm told are pretty clear of the little blighters ?

I've looked at http://midgeforecast.co.uk which shows they're are out in force where I'd like to go but it seems the midge forecast only covers the next few days or so ?

Any help / ideas / confirmation appreciated.

Thanks very much.

Walking around is not an issue. The wee bastards can only fly real slow.
Problem is sitting out of an evening when its calm. The slightest breeze sees them off.
Buy some 'Smidge'. It works and won't melt your skin like deet.

Insects ?

+1 for Avon Skin So Soft. But you do smell like a tart !
I play a lot of golf & we are plagued by horse flies at this time of year.
The bites are nasty. The Avon stuff really helps.

Thank you Angus and Proff, think I'll pay it a little visit.

After all, possibly my last chance as I may not be allowed in after September 18.

Last line is a joke by the way.

i was up there 2 weeks ago, they werent that bad,but as said before avon skin so soft[works for me]a couple of the lads had them head nets[sold everywhere]they do work, although you do look a bit naff.

Might look naff to you fashion conscious Scousers, but they are very practical and they don't hinder the ability to smoke and drink beer.

Avon Skin So Soft is good for midges but speaking from painful experience these last two weeks and by the amount of swollen and excruciatingly painful lumps on my arms and hands, they are no deterrent whatsoever to fekkin great big horse flies and other big fekkoff flies that live on alpaca shite.

The magic ingredient of Avon Skin So Soft is citronella
Get some in essential oil form (from Holland & Barratt or similar) and put a dozen or so drops in to any moisturiser or sun cream.
You can set the dose to what works best for you.

I laffed my arse off at a bloke on a loch lomond campsite last month walking round early evening with his head net on, come the next night, who was fookin laffin then!, mite look like a twat, but im gettin one next time!
