Hill Assist poor.

I have it on a few Triumphs and it works fine.

The amount of ‘force’ it takes to engage it can be a bit variable but I can live with that.

For a Rocket 3 it’s an absolute godsend.

For someone with decreased strength in their feet or hands, again a brilliant aide, which can lengthen one’s riding life.

It certainly has for me.

Enter UKGSer Neanderthal Detachment saying its all shite, and that in 1972 they waited on a 89deg incline for 3 hours at +32 Deg, pouring rain, wearing only bin liners for waterproofs…….wasn’t a problem then……

i cant imagine people are doing things differently…..

“Alice laughed. 'There's no use trying,' she said. 'One can't believe impossible things.'

I daresay you haven't had much practice,' said the Queen. 'When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. There goes the shawl again!”

So this hill start malarky, what i can deduct from this forum is....

Its effectiveness differs from bike to bike, even the same model of bike?

All you do is hold the front brake hard for a sec until the hill assist light comes on, i cant imagine people are doing things differently and its user error.

So the question is, why cant BMW make a consistent and reliable hill assist, what makes it change?
Are they all working from the factory and then fail due to bad maintenance or something else?
Dab the rear brake and it also activated or deactivates.
Works faultlessly for me.

This guy seems to know what he’s on about…

Well...... i think you have just explained why mine doesn't work.

I pull the front brake hard, hill assist on.
THEN because i don't trust it, i put my foot on the rear brake to be safe!
Give it a go.
It should transform your experience and improve safety.

I've had hill start assistance for so long I dont give it a thought its just part of riding

I think you’ve now realised that yours does work as it should and, more precisely, how it works.

You can now tell your mate, too. No more terrors of the Alps for him… or SWMBO, more importantly.

Why are folk using ski bindings? Quick release, or not?

I've watched my mate destroy clutches on his cars trying to get the auto handbrake to release for more than ten years on three cars, all different brands - the rear suspension dips 4" the clutch complains, then he jerks off and down the road having wasted a miles worth of fuel

I've witnessed it misbehave parking and rolling out of control when the flawed logic gets a muddle on - and all for a slower more recalcitrant experience that's far less pleasant than a real car with a manual handbrake lever - its just junk to make your life worse and the vehicle's less reliable

but according to this forum such pointless advances for BMW owners, they are an improvement

Surely if he’s jerking off at that point he isn’t really concentrating on the task in hand…..

Full marks for attempting to multi task.

Can’t blame the hill hold for that.

I’ll bowl them, you knock them out of the park
