Garments using the Gore-Tex waterproof membrane have to meet WL Gore's standards of construction. Hence the Gore-Tex label on them.

Gore-Tex really only refers to the semi-permeable PTFE membrane which gives the garment its waterproof qualities. This is achieved with either three ply Gore-Tex: a micro-porous Teflon, sandwiched between an outer shell fabric and a tricot mesh. The three plies consist of the face fabric, the membrane, and a tricot lining to protect the membrane; or three ply: a face fabric and a micro porous Teflon membrane. It is recommended that 2-ply be lined, to protect the membrane. Meshes and uncoated nylons work well for this.

try riding without the liner fitted in heavy rain for more than 15 mins

That said my Toe-rag bottoms didn't let get me wet without the liners fitted on a 60 mile trip to Belfast in light rain...between the legs got a little damp but all the water runs of your jacket and tank into your ballicuis bagicus

Some confusion here. The liners (removable bit) are not goretex they are thermal. The Goretex is sandwiched within the material of the clothing. Tuareg pants are bloody brilliant. I bought them a couple of years ago and with or without the thermal lining fitted they dont leak and the leather butt piece is comfy on trips over 400 miles per day.

Just to add to the confusion..........I think there are several versions of the Toerag range, some with zip out Goretex liners, others with the Goretex in the jacket so when the thermal lining comes out the jacket remains waterproof.
Suggest you call HG or pop in and have chat with them.

I've got a branch local to me and they have allways given excellent service - guess I'm lucky as I've seen some other posts on here with bad experiences.

My (pre Toerag) jacket and trousers are 4 years and 150,000 miles old - still waterproof and warm in winter and cool in summer.

Highly recommended.

My new HG Tuareg Ralley 2 is of the former variety... It's got a 2 layer Goretex liner that comes out like the BMW clothing... No zip-out insulation.

definitely not mine... i need the liners in the pants to make them fully waterproof

The staff at the Gericke shop informed me on purchase that my Toerag trousers weren`t fully waterproof without the liner in.

if it's the suit you got off me then the pants and jacket are only water proof if they have there liners fitted, without them the only parts that are water proof are,,,the left breast pocket on the jacket and the left thigh pocket on the pants,both of these have a Gor Tex liner inside..Hope this helps
