Had some lovely family holidays down there when we were kids

Come along with Jane anytime you like, I have a long list of jobs you could crack while you are here so you don't feel guilty for having another holiday.....

Great Yarmouth was my second home for around about 10 years, travelling by Artic truck ( Mercedes 1621 single sleeper or a 1626 twin bunk sleeper ) coupled to an, in those days ( 1984-1994 ) a 40 ft flat trailer, or an extendable 40-65 ft flat trailer.
Travelling twice weekly from Aberdeen to Montrose, loading up Oil Related Equipment, and off down to Great Yarmouth docks area.
Took 2 days getting there and 2 or 3 days getting back home. Sometimes having to wait for a backload. Really enjoyable part of my driving career.

When I was living over that way I used to see loads of ARR Craib trucks with all sorts of boaty related objects on them going back and forth.

Yup Graib's used, might still have a depot in GTY, they always get the cream of jobs as always undercutting the job prices, they always have, most likely still do.
We did a lot of work, oil related haulage with Schlumberger, in GTY returning containers etc, to Aberdeen, and Montrose.

I had ro pick up a fishing rod in Bradwell on Monday so the wife and I thought we would have a wander round Yarmouth for a couple of hours. Neither of us had been for at least 45 years. We parked in a small multi storey a couple of streets back from the front. The car park was designed for Minis and Hillman Imps I think judging by the tight spaces. We walked to the seafront via a couple of residential streets and it all felt a bit grim and menacing with groups of benefit scroungers/immigrants dotted about, The beach is by far the best feature. Really nice sand. I guess it is not my kind of place. It certainly needs massive investment. It left me feeling a bit down. I used to love the old timber big dipper!

Great Yarmouth and Blackpool are very similar. Great seafront / beach area but step one street back from that and they’re both utter shit holes.
No matter how much the councils spend on advertising or promoting them that will never change. Shame really.

Somewhere like Gt Yarmouth would make a great place to start building Data Centers plenty of brown field space which needs developing, this would bring in jobs and investment, access to water for cooling and guess what the offshore power comes in near by plus there is million of pounds being spent to get that power to the data centers in, guess where London.
