Made this in 30 minutes this morning out of an offcut of perforated stainless sheet. Spent more time fitting it to the bike:

in a word get a "reyno".;)

Why when I can make one for myself? I don't know what Reyno or Migsels products cost but they can't be any cheaper unless he's giving them away?

It does its job, what more can you want?

You come over as slightly negative despite the ;) :D ?

thats a bad case of gs yellow spot fly you've got there, you can get cream for that

:thumb fair enough comment looks a bit mean for me steve.
good mod ,low cost ,( first I bought an expensive wunderlich one)which doesn't look much different.
And to top it off its fitted to one of those nice blue beaks.
its more than i did.
so praise where its due ,not many here have made their own mods.

Nice job Steve :thumb made an oil cooler guard just the same, works a treat, now trying to get hold of some 3mm alum for a bash plate, will wait till new moon then have a look at the give way sign at the end of the road ;) (Only kidding)

If you can't liberate the correct road sign:D , try finding your local recycler of non ferrous metals - you'll be surprised at what you can find. I'm lucky living here where there are a few car racing/F1 teams. The local recycler has some bargains in now & again. Giant off cuts of sheet ally @ £2.00 per kg, sometimes less. Same with stainless sheet although not so common. Same goes for ally tube & bar up to 2" diameter - unfortunately my little lathe is not big enough to take 2" bar.

I was quoted £40.00 a few years for a sheet of 3mm thick ally measuring 36" x 12" so it's definitely worth scavenging about in recycle dumps. Found the piece I needed for £4.00 in the end.

You can reduce cost even further by trading in your old ally offcuts, bit's of engine case etc on stuff from the recycler - they give you 50% back for old stuff.

Oil cooler guard

Steve that looks great, what holds it in place?
I made one but found fitting it so difficult that I never did it, undoing the beak seems like a nightmere job?
I might try again in the winter.

No fasteners involved. The drill measures approx. 240 x 110mm. I cut out a section from the lower corners, leaving a tab about 70-80mm long on the underside. I bent this back at 90 degrees. Remove the beak so that it's hanging down & remove the two screws that hold the black plastiv headlight surround in place. Slide the upper corners behind this surround & push the bent lower tab between the underside of the cooler & the plastic bracket that it is supported by. Bolting everything back in to place secures/traps the guard in position.

If the above is hard to follow, PM me & I'll post you a diagram if that's any easier.

:beerjug: Steve, there happens to be a recycler in the town, I'll pay him a visit and see if I have any luck.

Well done for making your own Grille Steve, not easy to cut stainless, or have you got use of a guillotine?
Sorry about the "Reyno" invasion, happy customers ya know.
Cheers

No problems & thanks:cool:

I had the use of a guillotine at a friends place but as the stainless was only 1mm thick I hacksawed through most of it & made a few alterations with large tin snips of all things - worked well. Finished off the edges with a file.

Looks good Steve, ive made one myself for my 1100GS amazing waht you can find in B&Q

Nice one..

Sorry steve if comment came across as negative.. was meant to be humorous.. I have no facilities to cut/shape metal.. so went for the very reasonably prices reyno option... yours wins on price me thinks..

And that is a lot of flies on the front..
