Honda Africa Twin = Rip off Britain?

Completely understand how business works. More importantly, I am going to show them how a customer works. Ordered a UK spec Tri from dealer in Brussels for £9127. I asked him if he will get into trouble with Honda and his response was that he might get some heat BUT he is more concerned about falling foul of EU regs. .....as will Honda. Still sceptical but the order is in and deposit paid with delivery scheduled for March.

Once back in the UK I have to re reg which has a small charge attached to it....plus train trip at and tunnel back....£200 in total with fuel etc. With the accessories saving about £2k in total.

That's the best option, easy enough and back by a pan EEC warranty

How will it be any different, you're in the UK same as us??

Logistics, two ferries not one.

The pricing comparison would be more interesting if it was retail before tax and duty, showing what price Honda is setting before the national treasuries add their levies.

How much do you have to pay in VAT and tax to HMRC?

I believe that as long as it's bought VAT paid within the EU there are no additional taxes or duty to pay. As long as the type approval is for the EU that shouldn't be an issue either.

I must have done more than 6000 km or be over 6 months (ie from date of first registration) then VAT free otherwise you have to pay VAT although you can recover the VAT paid on the vehicle originally in its country of origin.

Quite correct, you buy the bike EX vat in the supplying country and then VAT in the UK on registration. VAT in Belgium is 21% so there will be an additional slight saving. Have done this with a car before...no hassle, all done over the web, take 10 mins.
