Im near completing a restoration on the above bike and would appreciate help as follows:

Ive got a good healthy spark, however my electric circuit is dead, ie no lights, instrument lights horn all dead.

New battery, showing 6.4 volts.

Im thinking if this was a poor earth connection or ignition switch, I would'nt get a spark.

Ive tested the rectifier and the numbers seem to jump up and down on the multimeter so i've ordered a replacement.
Is a faulty rectifier enough to cause dead electrics? Or should I consider other causes.?

Im asking this because on modern 12v bikes rectifiers dont seem to cause dead electrics when they fail, but cause other symptoms.

All wiring appears correct, any advice please?

Is the ignition self-generating?

If so it could just be a blown fuse or some other simple fault.

Have not worked on one for over 40 years, but you should remember:

The battery is only used for the indicators and stoplight.
As I recall, the front and rear lights are driven directly from the flywheel alternator, along with the ignition. Lights are therefore A.C.
Thus, the battery and rectifier are an irrelevance.
Hope this helps.

Rectifier won't cure it,

You need to test all the circuits,

As said some circuits are probably run off the generator, though the horn should work direct,

You need to know where the power is going too and where it is not, you can use something like this,

Not a lot of use on a 6v machine.
What you really need is a wiring diagram, and someone who knows how to read it, + of course, a voltmeter.
Myke.

Wrong it's perfect for 6v machines, you just need to connect it to a 6v battery, works between 6 and 24 volt,

It worked perfect in sorting out my 6v Honda Ct90, and the Suzuki a100 before that!

will the engine run ? you dont need a battery on the bike , do the indicators flash at all ? how old what model

SIGNS OF LIFE - ive bypassed the rectifier (just as a test) and have signs of life got lights to come on neutral indicator and mild click from the horn. No signs from the indicators, perhaps these work off the ignition system. Ive only got the engine wired up next to but not in the bike, just to check things out.
Im going to carry on the last bit of the build, double check all the connectors and put a new rectifier in then im hoping it will be ok.

My original post was regarding the rectifier, only on bypassing it to test, does the problem appear to be related to it.
