Picking up a 2001 Pan European later in the week to use as a winter hack and to commute to France on occasionally. I have been looking at 1100/1150RTs but low mileage bikes seem to be expensive compared to the Pan. This one's covered 24k with history. Checked the interweb and they seem pretty bullet proof. Apart from corrosion on the exhausts and rear swinging arm is there anything else to look out for?

Our job bikes seemed to get through front wheel bearings, but that might have been the constant pressure washing. No real probs in massive mileages-great bikes, mate. ABS module is expensive if it goes. Some bikes had nicer gearboxes than others, but I always enjoy riding the old Pan.

I had 2 Pans over 8 year period. Terrific bike, smooth, comfortable and in the right hands can really hustle. The only problem I had with one of the bikes was the need for a replacement rubber seal / washer that is located at the top of the rear suspension unit, which after time can get worn due to the weight of the the rear wheel + shaft drive unit when left on centre stand. Its not expensive to fix, but I was told by the dealer that it was fairly common. Otherwise as mentioned - bullet proof.

You'll know straight away if its been properly protected from or not ridden through winters.

Mine was used through 3 winters and rotted, fasteners, brake disks. And the paint was the thinnest I'd ever cam across, just looking at the paint tended to mark it. Front of tank and panniers took the worst of it.

Great bike otherwise, deceptively quick!

Had 4 1100's and 2 1300's they are brilliant, would take a 1100 over a 1300 anyday. As others have said swingarm and exhausts thats about it.
Got a taller screen somewhere if your interested

I Shouldn't need your taller screen Big Den, the bike has a screen that the seller imported from the States (see pic) which looks the business. I haven't actually seen the bike yet, part of the deal is the seller will put a new MOT on the bike before I pay for and collect it. The seller seems a genuine chap and I am hoping there are no problems.

Front fork springs weaken with time, so make sure yours are still stiff.
after my wee off :tears:tears:tears mine was found to have worn/weak springs 32k mile bike.
:kissy2

Picked the bike up yesterday, 24k, full honda service history, years MOT, newish tyres, tank cover and back rest and it looks like a very well looked after m/c.
Just done 120 miles on her, 60 of those miles in very heavy rain (as pleasant as any m/c can be in heavy rain) and I am impressed, very comfy and smooth. A bit bland maybe but that would be my only criticism. Looking at prices ST1100s seem to be a bit of a bargain at the moment.
It will be interesting to see how the bike copes with the winter.

Did Lands End to Oxford on mine a few years ago. My poor mate did the same trip on his CBR 600. :D We had to chisel the poor bugger off his bike when he arrived. And it's the only time I've ever beaten him anywhere.

What did you pay for yours? Looks like a beaut.

It's a 2001 and I gave £3k which included a full tank of Juice. My cunning plan is to run her for 12 months and hopefully sell for the same price as I paid. That said, very few of my cunning plans succeed :blast :D

there is a fellow up here in jockland that rides with us at the scottish section of the pan clan and his st 1100 has done a genuine 250,000 miles and it gave no trouble till just 4k short of that !!!!!!!!!:beerjug:

Not bad at all! Shouldn't have too many issues shifting it I wouldn't think!
