Hope Triumph enjoyed the 5 minutes of fame

I love it when a dealer comes out with:

"but deliveries start in March and my advice would be to get in early if you want to have one for spring as most dealers already have deposits"

If the deposits are that numerous - then he needn't make that statement.

It merely translates to: "We'd like to have your deposits in our bank as soon as possible"

If I were leaving a deposit with any sort of motor dealer for any length of time in the current climate I think I'd use a credit card, especially when there's this sort of desperate hawking going on so early.. :augie

If the bike is as good as the blah (has anyone actually ridden it yet?) I'm sure it won't need this sort of promotion.

Bah humbug! :comfort

All in your humble opinion of course:D

It could be if you want one of the first ones they are likely to sell out, not beyond the realms of possibility.

You're being so-o-o naive......... :rob

You actually believe that each dealer is concerned that you, personally might miss out on the initial production of the new model.

Sorry - each dealer doesn't care who the bikes go to............. :augie

If the bikes are being taken up en-mass - there is no need for the blurb.

If the bikes are genetating little interest - then the blurb is misleading.

Hope that explains the thought process............. :thumb2

(it's analogous to the Ebay seller who says "Your chance to grab a bargain" in an open auction.............. a load of shit. )

Al :)

Of course you may be right, certainly are......................however the people I have taken opinion from is the ones who spanner them daily - who should be in the know to a degree I guess

Scientifically or statistically it may not be accurate, but it'll do for me

If you're happy, keep paying for your latest 12GS & its warranty - whatever makes you happy:thumb

Me - i'm happy to run an older bike(s) in my garage than have all my eggs in two baskets

A significant number of 12's had certain issues, fuel control systems poorly dedsigned and located in silly positions, cheap chinese(?) electronics and notably final drives, the same item that had been redesigned as a result of the 1150 FD problems. If BMW allow that kind of design flaw to persist into a 3rd generation then they deserve to be considered the laughing stock of manufaturers. These are supposed to be "quality" machines.

Truth be told, the article on here somewhere about con-rod to stroke ratio's was more than just plausible. How do they fix that by water cooling?

Guzzi next for me - life's an Adventure, Chris

Decision made then. :thumb2

It's the breed I really should have bought again but I'm certainly not going to chop my GS in for the next 2 years. Maybe at the end of the payments I will revisit the best once again. :augie

I have had no reliability issues with my 2010 1200GS - and nothing serious with my previous 2005GS, plenty of people have had issues with the 1150 and bearing in mind it only sold a fraction of the numbers of the 1200 the 1200 was at least as reliable, maybe more so than the 1150.

My point is that BMW absolutely must make sure that there are no serious issues with this new model, the competition will use any excuse to fault it because they must now be running scared.

Triumph have just bought out the new Trophy, which they hope will be an RT beater, but my guess is that this new engine, electronics and suspension will soon be in the RT and then Trophy will be leapfrogged just like the Explorer has been.

Not to fussed about Triumph either but this years attempted trip was cut short before we reached the tunnel , brand new 1200 picked up the week before and the diff went on the A1 , since then he's had 11 more proplems and he's trying to hand the bike back .... :eek

Brand new 1200 what? :nenau

:popcorn I'll watch the unfolding debate with interest and see what develops over the coming year. My 05 GS has a full BMW service history and I'll probably have it's annual done again in Feb next year as i'm looking to trade it for a new bike some time later next year. I'm not adverse to the triumph (don't like the look of the luggage though) and I like the look of the new GS so I guess I'll just hang on and see how well it fairs once it's on the road. Also I suspect there will be one almighty battle between Triumph and BMW with offers and finance deals abound to attract new customers. so it's going to be a buyers market and i'll be nicely poised to take advantage of whoever offers the best package. :D

I doubt you'll see any offers on the new GS for at least 12 months as they will sell by the boatload

The Triumph however may be a different story............

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. I go to a show, see a new bike, come back full of enthusiasm and now look what's happened! Just for the record, my advice to get your order in early if you want a spring delivery was based on what happened in March 2004 when the original 1200 was launched. On the launch day of 5th March, we already had 26 orders. That took up March, April, May and June production so customers who waited until spring before ordering were faced with a very long delivery time and missed most of the summer's riding and potential touring holidays. Thats it. End of. No hidden agenda, just what I thought was good advice for fellow GS riders. Sorry if it was taken the wrong way, and if you don't want to get an early deposit in that's fine - just come and have a ride on it in March.

Don't worry he's just stressed not knowing if Scotland is to be under the heel of the jackboot and smelling of cheese or if it will be the status quo.

He'll probably calm down in a year or two.:comfort
