Here in the north west united utilities don't give a toss. I reported a leak outside the house on the 4th February. I did a quick measure of the flow as the water entered the drain. I measured 650 litres per hour. They eventually found the leak after 55 days.
I made or received 20 phone calls, faxed 2 letters of complaint. Argued with the area engineer who said at first it was rain water, then groundwater and finally a spring. They would n't turn off the main to confirm it was a supply problem as they said they would have to write to all residents and agree a time because the supply was still running. The road is private so I demanded they turn off the water or I would with the consent of the residents.
The area engineer used to have 13 gangs at his disposal before it was taken over from north west water he now has 2 and uses sub contractors to fill the gap. They had no modern detection equipment and had to dig a total of 5 holes install 3 stop taps and a valve on the main. This was in our tarmac which we had to pay for last February at a cost of £17,000. The repairs are crap
Now a complaint to Ofwat which was lodged 3 weeks ago and I have only received an acknowledgement to date. Local MP no response, local press not interested.
Monopolies simply don,t give a toss
