Hi

I use my F800GS to commute every week day, and i've noticed once the bike has warmed up and is 'hot' when i stop the engine it sounds like it won't crank over strongly and starts (just:eek:). When its cold it starts as well as it has since i got it (31000 miles ago :blagblah).

this morning i thought once i got to work i would try and turn it off and start her up....well it only cranks round once and then it's like the battery is dead. the only thing suggesting it may not be the battery (although it still could be?!) is that when she's cold it fires up.:nenau

any ideas?

I had exactly the same problem last year. Checked the battery and the electrolyte levels were way low. Topped it up with distilled water (yes, I know it is supposed to be sealed, but can be opened with a little judicious use of a screwdriver) and it was fine for a couple of months but then deteriorated again. So got a new battery and it's been fine ever since.

The batteries fitted to the F800 twins at the factory are well known for failing in much the way you describe, typically at around two years of age. On some online forums, it is called Sudden Battery Death Syndrome. BMW will happily replace the battery with another Exide unit, which has a good chance of failing in exactly the same way. An effective cure is to fit a Yuasa replacement.

Thank guys for the prompt reply :beerjug:

This is the original battery so i guess 3 years out of the OEM one isn't that bad really.

New one just ordered Yuasa :type lets hope it works :thumb2

Safe driving everyone :moped:
Thanks
Tim
