Hi. My wife and I are off to Morocco on the GS in May planning on using the Algeciras to Tanger Med Ferry. I am looking for a decent hotel / B&B or similar within an hours drive of Algeciras, can anyone recommend anywhere? Thanks

There can omly be one place to stay

Hotel Reina Cristiana, in Algeciras itself LINKY HERE

It's proper old skool colonial and has always seemed a fitting farewell to Europe before hitting the madness of Maroc. It really is like going back in time (in a good way), they even have a 'Spanish Tea Dance' some evenings. Prices are more reasonable than it might look at first glance and the place is a bit of an institution with overlanders so they aren't fazed by dirty, scruffy biker / Landy drivers :)

Hi Andres. That look like just the place :beerjug: Mrs Jones will be very happy!! Thanks for the tip

As an alternative you might like to consider Holiday Inn Express Hotel Campo De Gibraltar Barrios - Stayed there on three separate occasions whilst doing the Algecerias -Tangier Med crossing. In a retail park so not very scenic, but very close to the ferry for the early crossings. Close to Gibraltar also, for cheap fuel and the obligatory £8 bottle of Bells Whiskey from Morrisons. Staff have good English been more than helpful with early breakfasts. Carpark well covered by CCTV & 24 hour reception so never worried about bike security.
Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea, but nice to have a guaranteed good night's sleep before the 'adventure' of accommodation in Morocco!

Thanks Woody a good back up....we have booked Hotel Reina Cristiana on the way out but its useful to have another option on the way back as we aren't sure what date / time so need some flexibility. Cheers :)

You got me all reminicing over the last time I was there.......... here's a picture of my old bike sat outside reception, there were 11 of us all working on our bikes there and not one eyelid was batted :D

Enjoy your trip :beerjug:

1+ as well. Stayed there last year while on day trip to Ceyuta. It was very cheap considering sharing room with my mate.
