Me and Jon are popping off to the alps in a couple of weeks and having only been there when snow is on the ground are looking for hotel recommendations in Dijon, Chamonix, Annecy and Grenoble? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jim,
there is a really nice little bike friendly Hotel in St.Jean du Maurienne, a perfect base from which you can do some super mountain passes, easy. try the Iseran from Bonval dropping into Val d'Isere, then come back over the Col de la Madelaine, that is one terrific circuitwith really pretty villages for coffee and lunch breaks, then the other side of the valley, the Col Telegraphe/Galibier up from St Michel de Maurienne, round back through the Col Croix de Fer, the locals will tell you what's open, all that is on the Tour de France route in various years and great GS country.
Still back to the Hotel, it is Hotel du Nord

39€ for a double room the restaurent is very good value as well.
see their site you note all the bikes in their car park,
enjoy Savoie.

Dunno if the "Hotel les Castors" in Briancon is in your path but the proprietress of the hotel was seeking UK biker custom, as a ski hotel had drying facilities and there's a superb steak restaurant in town [I recommend the sirloin in blue cheese sauce]....which I can't remember the name of.....and also a gay bar that serves very good pizzas but has very few customers....

:eek

Somewhere in Anneccy

We stayed in a place called Hotel du Chateau. A bit pricey but you get to park the bike right outside and if the weather's good you can eat your breakfast on the terrace overlooking the town. Very nice.

Hotels

Did the Alps last year & had a great time. We stayed in Bourg St Maurice. I concluded all the hotels in the Alps are in need of redecorating and overpriced. We stayed in Dijon on the way back. If you just follow the signs to the town centre, there is a Mercure hotel with secure underground parking. The Saturday we were there, they had a jazz band playing in the square.
