How bad are the side stands on the GS ?

£1000 excess at North Oxford.

That's the maximum. Most (decent) dealers would charge for just the parts and a bit of labour, if that works out cheaper for the customer.

My 2013 LC rolled off the side stand in that Yorkshire. I thought it was a conspiracy, set up by JB, but it wasn't. I ALWAYS park in 1st gear, no matter what the road surface, or bike. My mate that was with me also parks his bikes in gear, regardless!:D

Don't go blaming Yorkshire, it can happen anywhere you know

First thing learnt on the BMW offroad with Mr Pavey.... There is no Neutral!

Since then never turned off the bike in neutral or left it in neutral when parking up, also turning the bars inward (RH towards the tank) reduces seat height to make getting on and off easier as well as more secure when parked on the side stand as has already been mentioned.

I'm surprised there is no lock on the side stand, Harley stands lock when down to prevent them folding.

Sidestand on the LC is ok, on the other hand some users.......... :)

Fair play to the bloke for posting that on youtube and not just pretending it never happened.supprising that a dealer demonstrator had no crash bars or protection as it is a big bike that a lot of folk could easily drop. However,he looses points for being heightist and not knowing his left from his right in the cruise control bit! I wonder what bike he ended up buying, good manners and good sense would suggest the bmw but the guys at the dealership will pull his leg about it for ages!

looking at youtube it doesn't look like he's made his mind up yet. If he didn't have the 'other' bike it would probably be the GS, but watching his vid on the Tiger 800 I recon that'll be the one he picks as he wants a commuter that will filter easily that he can ride all year round then ride the other at weekends, rather than just have 1 bike (the GS) that will do everything. He also went on a bit about the price difference too... must be a northern thing :toungincheek

Interestingly he didn't even consider the Explorer. Now if he'd dropped that he would probably have needed help to get it back upright......

Who are these Vlogging Tossers?

Do they think we're interested to listen to their musings for 34 mins FFS

What a boring **** ! We only needed the part where it falls over.

I never put bike into neutral, side stand down engine turns off, roll it forward so that the transmission slop is taken up, take key out and get off. Get back on, key in , side stand up. Clutch in fire up bike, ride off. Simples

Surely you didn't watch the whole video?

Good advice, if you turn the bars inwards surely that left had down towards the tank and bars outward is right hand down towards the tank

Which do you mean, I would have thought left had down towards tank would decrease the seat height most

Do you have crash bars and/or cylinder head covers ?

Mine is a GSA so comes with the BMW crash bars.......no cylinder head covers. Although I got away with it that time, I am seriously thinking of some cylinder head covers. Have had to 'put the bike down' a couple of times while off road, and one of these days I'll get a dink, so they are on the shopping list. But all in all, proper impressed with how robust its been so far. 24k miles commuting and a little offload and still looks scratch free!

It's worrying how easy it punctured the rocker cover.

Is it?
I find it neither worrying nor surprising, give that the cam covers are made from magnesium (as they have been on previous boxer engined BMW's) either use common sense when parking or fit some sort of protection it's not rocket science
