Can anyone help? Over the last few days a blue bar (shown in the picture below) comes up under the links bar.
The only way I can get rid of it is by right clicking on it... then the dropdown shown in the picture appears. If I untick Title Support the bar goes away, but then re-appears when I move onto another page or the screen is refreshed.
I then go through the untick procedure again and after I have done this maybe 10 to 15 times, the thing finally goes away.
There seems to be a pattern. It comes up when I first log on, then I get rid of it.
Then it comes back again later in the day and I go through the process again.

I run Ad-aware 6.0... that hasn't made any difference, deleted my temp internet files...
Any suggestions please...it isn't life threatening but p****s you off after a while.

Thanks.... MD

A mate of mine got a similar one after downloading something from the internet. I ran a spyware program (pest patrol) on the computer and that got rid of it. It also found 300 'parasites' on his computer.

I know nothing about computers and haven't got a clue how this worked!

First I would try adaware - www.lavasoft.de - which will detect and remove any spyware on your PC. You have got a toolbar which almost certainly falls into that category.

Mike I have already run the Lavasoft program - Ad-aware 6.0.
You're right, it picked up loads of unwanted spyware etc.
I deleted all of those and now run it almost daily as a precaution...
however, it hasn't got rid of this problem.

Magee. I haven't tried the pest patrol program... I'll have a look at that.

Thanks for all your inputs, but no luck so far...
I've tried Ad-aware 6.0
Spybot search and destroy
CWshredder

Found various unwanted files and have taken action to remove them, but still the unwanted Title Bar appears.

I haven't tried pest patrol yet. Guess I should give that a go.

I've just tried using Mozilla Firebird as my browser. That looks fine, no sign of the dreaded Title Bar, so I may use that as my default browser.

The funny bit is, once you have got it to stop displaying, you can right click and you see Title Bar listed, If you tick it it comes back, then if you untick it it goes away and doesn't keep coming back.
Then later in the day, or if you close down the browser, you get back into the loop of trying to get rid of it... weird!

Anyway... thanks for your help. MD

Firebird (aka Mozilla Firefox) is way cool. You have to install quite a few plugins to get it into a useful state but I haven't found too many websites that won't display. Some of the cooler extensions (listed on the website include the ability to download a whole website - images and all - onto your PC simply by clicking a button on the top of the browser.

As for your current problem. The free version of SpyFerret might help identify the offending software, although you have to purchase the ful version to remove it - but identifying it is the biggest problem - then just simple google for software to remove it.

Do you see any logos? What happens if you click one of the search buttons - which website are you redirected to? All these are clues in identifying the software.

The following may be useful although it doesn't give images to help you identify the software - http://www.spyany.com/program/article_adware_spyware_remove.html

b.t.w. Have you tried the obvious? i.e. goto Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs and remove anything that you see which shouldn't be there.

Mike

Thanks Mike. I've taken your advice and it appears to the lop.com toolbar... apparently well know as a pain in the arse.
This hadn't been identified by the other spyware detectors, but Spyferret confirm it was on my system... I'd also clicked on a couple of the link buttons on this toolbar and they took me to the lop.com search site.
I've now run Spy Sweeper and this has identified and removed a couple of lop related files.
At the moment the toolbar is still there but hasn't just popped up.
There are also some instructions available for manually editing the registry but I'm not over keen to mess around in there, could result in tears.
So, some progress... thanks.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Just got my 75 year old father sorted with a pc to allow him access to the internet, and within three days he gets a Trojan virus that pointed his browser to a porn site (not a particularly pleasant one either!)

He’s a man of the world but still found it distressing, as my Mother would have had a fit if she’d seen it.

I loaded him some anti-virus software and spent a night sorting it out (I realise I should have done this before)

These evil gits are ruining one of the best pieces of technology to appear in the last 20 years. I can’t remember the last time one of these scum was caught and tried for this.

If you running windows XP try going back a few days on the system restore option, or restore to a date you know it didn't have the additional toolbar.

I had an iSearch bar on my windows explorer. It locked the tool bar selecction menu, B@STARDS!!! Going to the iSearch website found that it cost $30 to buy the uninstall programme. THIEVING B@STARDS. I searched on google and found a site that had a solution to unintall iSearch, but iSearch had blocked access. Words fail me here. Eventually I found a site that allowed me to do it. Bar gone, troubles over.

Or so I thought.

No sooner than I had done that but one web page kept opening up sessions of itself. It would fill the whole screen, removing menu access, and keep producing more sessions until windows stopped allowing new sessions.. Each window took several minutes to load. I managed to download MS security updates. close all the windows and restart. Problem solved.

Or so I thought.

I had to reset the home page. As soon as I opened the Tool>Internet Options menu it started again. I reset the computer. And another tool bar appeared on my Explorer, this time called MySearch. A quick visit to Add/Remove programmes took care of that.

Or so I thought.

A warning box popped up. Entitled "Microsoft Internet Explorer" informed me I had some spyware software detected on my system. Helpfully it gave me the option of finding out more information about it. Like a fool I clicked "Okay". The whole thing started again with a million squiliion sessions of this bloody web page starting. I will try some of this spyware software when I get home tonight and hope that will solve the problem.

Or so I think.

I installed and ran Spybot and it came up with a load of stuff on my system. problem is, I'm not sure whether I shoud delete all the red entries or not? Mostly about Back Web Lite - what is this? Also, do I also delete green entries, or are they useful? As you can tell, I'm a numpty at this stuff

Still haven't got rid of it

Thought it had gone away but no... it's still there.
I've run
SpySweeper
Spybot
Spy Ferret
Ad-aware

I've emptied all temp internet files, deleted all cookies.

These programs detect lop cookies (C2lop for instance), and remove the ones they find but are obviously not getting to the root cause.
I think they've gone but once I open Internet Explorer, they come back again...
something deep in the registry I think.

The weird thing is that it starts up and once I've "cancelled" it enough times it goes away... then reappears later in the day .. almost like it was on a timer.

Apparently, whatever lop is doing to me is a mild form...it can completely take over the browser.
