How can I lock my computer after, say, 5 minutes of inactivity?
By lock I mean that a password has to be entered to unlock?

Oh, windows 7

Thanks :thumb2

Click start, control panel, power options, set it to the 'power saver' option.

Set it to 'go to sleep' after x minutes of inactivity, then in the upper left hand corner of the same popup window, you'll find a link called "require a password on wakeup"

There are other ways of doing it (using a screensaver that kicks in after x minutes and is PW protected for example) but if it's going to sleep, you may as well save power as well :thumb2

You're welcome :thumb2

By the way, I've just thought of another way, that may well be preferable....

Set a Password on your account (control panel, user options) then at any time, all you have to do it hit the Windows key (inbetween ctrl and alt) at the same time as 'L' key......it won't do it automatically when you walk away from the PC (although you could set that as well, say for a longer time period) but it saves faffing around.....if you set a short period of inactivity for it to 'sleep', you will rapidly get frustrated because it can go into sleep mode when watching a film or you just sit back and look out of the window.

:eek

Go to screen saver and tick box "on resume display logon screen"

You will need to assign a password to your account for this to work.
