My friend and I will be travelling morocco in August with a plan to meet wives in Essaouira. We will be travelling France, Spain and then plan the following route. We will be on an RT1100 and Pan European - so tarmac only.

Does the following sound reasonable:

Day 1: Cueta - Fez (N13) - Azrou (N8)
Day 2: Azrou - Midelt (N13) - Er Rachidia (N13)
Day 3: Er Rachidia (N10) - Quarzazate
Day 4: Quarzazate (N9) - Marakech - Essaoura (N8)

I am aware that they are all main roads, so will not necessarily be the most adveturous, but bikes and time are a factor.

For two day trip for the missus, how does the following sound:

Essouira - Agadir (N1)
Agadir - Querzazate (N10) Overnight stop
Querzazate - Marakech (N9)
Marakech - Essaouira (N8)

Any advice greatly appreciated

ferret,hi......can't give advice, but i am going to morocco april time, doing a sponsored ride (www.justgiving/moto4africa)as august could be red hot? ...yorks,via france/spain,crossing,then west coast to casa/agadir/and back up via marra/fez,with a bit of altas.i've only been on here a week or so,but the info is great.tim has loads of knowledge about routes,so look around the morocco links/tim.i'm sure you'll get everything you'll need......tyke

Hi,

I was in Morocco last year. Mid may till really June, we had snow in the Atlas and it was too dam hot in the south, like 40 C. So what it's going to be like in August I don't know. But me and a mate really want to do a bit of the Sahara so in 2009, we're going in April, coming back may, but the Sahara, is our first port of call.

Hope this helps.

On decent bikes ...

... and sticking to the main roads, Cueta to Marrakesh shouldn't really take more than two days :nenau

Thanks chaps for your advice. Yes, I guess August will be really hot, but I'll cope. It is useful to know Marra to Ceuta in one day is easy. Any idea about Azrou to Er Rachidia and Er Rachidia to Querzazate?

Day 1: Cueta - Fez (N13) - Azrou (N8)
Day 2: Azrou - Midelt (N13) - Er Rachidia (N13)
Day 3: Er Rachidia (N10) - Quarzazate
Day 4: Quarzazate (N9) - Marakech - Essaoura (N8)

My Opinion for what it's worth

Day 1: Cueta - Fez (N13) - Azrou (N8) A big day - Azrou is a good choice though
Day 2: Azrou - Midelt (N13) - Er Rachidia (N13) No Problem
Day 3: Er Rachidia (N10) - Quarzazate Big Day and Hot in the south
Day 4: Quarzazate (N9) - Marakech - Essaoura (N8) Another long Day

If you are really good at long distance stuff, all the above is achievable, however you will be belting between your stopoff points, which could defeat the object IMHO, there is so much stuff to see and there is real joy in "bimbling" in Morocco, just stopping in towns and watching the world go by is a top activity in it's own right.

For two day trip for the missus, how does the following sound:

Essouira - Agadir (N1) 3 hr trip
Agadir - Querzazate (N10) 7 hrs ridingOvernight stop
Querzazate - Marakech (N9) 4 hrs riding
Marakech - Essaouira (N8) 3 hrs riding

Ferret , do not underestimate the time you need to find your end destination - Marra, and even Agadir to the uninitiated ( Especially the Medina or Palmerie ) can be an impenetrable maze - Handy hint, stop and get someone to lead the way on a moped or "petit taxi", it will cost you a few Dirham, but will save you frustration at the end of a long hot ride.

Oh .... and riding at night is a No-No :nono

Cheers mate, This is excellent advice that we will consider carefully. I know we will be pushing on a bit, but we will have 10 days in Essaouirra to sit watch the world go by and soak up the moroccan vibe. Much appreciated
