I presently have an Autocom Pro-7 & 2610 GPS wired on the bike and I am looking to add a hard wired MP3 through the tank bag as seen somewhere on this board. At some stage for when I get to Canada I'd like to add a heated waistcoat (I might even need the socks too).

The question is, how many items can the electrical system take at once and does having all these items working at the same time have a detrimental effect on the electrics and battery? I would like a second plug-in socket fitted at some stage so would this help?

Cheers for any suggestions

You don't say what bike you have, but I guess they all have similar alternators.

The 1200 has a 600 watt alternator, so says the brochure. We don't know how many watts are used by the bike, but I can tell you I've got an extra 220 watts of light on my bike, which doesn't seem to have had any detrimental effect :D

Compared to that, electronic accessories like GPS, MP3 are negligible. Even a heated jacket will draw maybe 30-50 watts maximum.

So as long as the wiring you add to your bike can handle the load of whatever is plugged into it (and again, if it's electronic gizmos they draw next to nothing), you should have no problems.
