How Many Miles Out Of 1200GSA Rear Disc ?

Hello Kind Gentle Folk,

Can anyone tell me what sort of mileage I should get out of a my 12GSA rear disc before it starts to wear.

Also, how is the braking distributed from front to rear; front 70% rear 30% ?

mines got a noticeable lip on it at 2.5K. it's 4.8mm at the moment & i think the limit is 4.5mm, so not long now

next time i'm at CWs i intend asking if the bias is adjustable, or better still, if the rear can be disconnected.

Mines going in for 12,000 service next week and yesterday noticed a huge lip on the rear disc below 4.5mm. I am on my second set of pads for the rear, I have been reading on the forum and there seems to be mixed reviews on pad and disc wear. I now I don't drag my foot, so 12000 for rear disc seems fair ?

it is fecking outrageous. at 6000km there's no obvious lip on my 1200gsa but i only got 4000km out of my first set of pads which is also outrageous.

after 7 oilheads (excl this 1200gsa) some with 80,000kms on them i have never had to replace either front or rear disk. this is the first linked system i've had.

If you let them go down to the metal, they'll scor the disk..
Heppened my original disk and it ate through the replacement pads in 3000km.
When the disk was in good nick (even with a lip) they last about the same as you.. 6000km.

They're sh1te (I got 35000km on a set on my 1150GS), but at least the dealer seems to be telling everyone to keep an eye on them.

Give your auld mate AR a shout in Duffy's.
They're now supply the Sintered pads for extra life on the back.
I can only imagine they'll nibble away as the disks more though..

Shinobi put a pair in a few weeks back, so we'll see how he fairs.

I asked one of the guys if he could take a look at the rear disc for me and tell me what he thinks, he took the bike into the workshop there and then 5 minutes later came back and said I have 4.65mm left, about 6000 - 8000.

I think I had my micrometer set wrong !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DOOOOOOOOOOO

Anywho he also metioned that BMW now recommend and replace rear pads with Sinter pads and not Org pads and previous. Only on intergrated ABS can Sinter pads be used.

I asked one of the guys if he could take a look at the rear disc for me and tell me what he thinks, he took the bike into the workshop there and then 5 minutes later came back and said I have 4.65mm left, about 6000 - 8000.

Sintered pads may be a good idea, but are they gonna reduce the price a bit, they were £40+ a set last time i bought some

No, Just paid £45 for a set.

FWIW my GS (not-A) has managed 12000 miles on the rear pads. Disk is fine too.

However, both disk and pads were replaced under warranty at 6000 miles as the disk had warped!

Rear pads still have a little bit of life in them but I'll be changing them next week to be safe.

Did a lot of dirty riding but even so seems at bit low. I believe there are some harder 'Gold' pads that you can fit but I'm worried about the rapid wear of the pads being transfered to the disc. What's the price of the rear disc?

What do you reckon?

Rear disc price £135

The Sintered pads will wear the disc down quicker.

The guy who looked at my bike said that when you pull the front brake lever very lightly the rear break is applied first, its only when you pull the lever progressively harder will the front come on. Which could explain why I have gone through 2 sets of rear pads and there's more wear on my rear disc.

I am only half way through my first set of front pads, and the disc looks perfect.
