No offense taken Bill, you are welcome to ask questions. The truth is that they don't go, don't brake and handle quite poorly. They are expensive, thirsty and not very well built. For virtually any purpose or journey there are plenty of other motorcycles that will do the job faster, more easily, more cheaply, more reliably, safer and carry more luggage / people. The styling pretty much stopped around 1955 and they've either got a lot more ugly since or spent their entire time trying to build something that looks half as good as the original.
Having then bought a really terrible motorcycle most owners proceed to spend a lot of money adding things that it doesn't need, painting it a colour only the owner will like, 'tuning' it for more noise and a proportionate reduction in performance or just trying to make it look more like the model they wished they'd bought. Alternatively some just spend a lot of time junking half the bike they bought in the first place.
