how strong is the 1100 front end??

Some TW&T reversed into my bike and pushed it back by 6-10 inches....

bike was on sidestand in first gear... but didn't go over...

only difference I can see is the front wheel doesn't spin freely... it doesn't take much effort to spin it.. but there is 'some' drag - no nasty noises though.

rode it home (gently) and to be honest didn't notice any difference... but then I did ride VERY VERY gently.

im in a panic because I was hoping to take up the wilbers offer... from bob1150 and well... if this involves a wad of cash all my plans go out the window.

will be taking it for a proper check tomorrow...


has anyone had similar happen??? and what was the result.

hope your lucky and its just a slightly buckled wheel.

if it was hard enough to make any real damage you would have known, even going steady, head bearing/cups rocking, sharp stearing, wheel wobble, clonking noise on suspension travel, etc etc, but better get it checked

all the spokes ring quite nicely... im hopeful. as i said its just the slight drag when i spin the wheel thats a concern.

I hit a 6" deep and 12" wide pot hole, buckled the front and rear wheels but no damage to anything else. Not the same as a car driving into the bike but i says something about the strength of the bikes. Mine is a 1200 but by all accounts thes aren't as good as the earlier models Best to get it checked out though to be on the safe side.

Was the steering lock on or the bike parked with the wheel at an angle?.
If the brakes are binding slightly,i would guess that the forks may be twisted in the lower fork bridge.Try loosening the fork bridge and the wheel clamp bolts and re-aligning the forks/wheel/bars.

when I checked the air in the front tyre on sunday.. the wheel span completely freely. (as usual) now it takes a very small amount of effort and it stops rotating.

no.. steering lock wasn't in use... the bike was at an angle though. I'm having (as you can tell) a sleepless night fretting about this. will be calling the dealership at 9 when they open then taking the bike over for a proper check. If the fork bridge has been knocked out of alignment then I will let them sort that. Just hoping its no more serious than the brakes sticking slightly... but as I've said it IS very slight.

Just back from Pidcocks BMW in Long eaton and they gave the old girl a good going over and FOUND NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER !!!

The drag on the wheel is 'they said' quite normal... I did point out the prior to this the wheel would spin completely freely with hardly any friction. But they assure me the wheel, forks, everything - are completely 'true'

all that worry for nothing... I guess the moral of this tale is these bikes are a lot stronger than I imagined. Or perhaps whatever hit it was going very slowly. and simply 'eased' it backwards

it's not mormally the forks or front end that get damaged when they are pushed along by a car.

It's usually the engine case that cracks, but not straight away, it shows up a couple of weeks later.

I'll imagine you'll be ok because the bike was on the side stand.
It seems when the bike is on the centre stand that the problems occur.

I've has a few in where this has happened to them. One was written off

Funnily all 1100 models, doesn't seem to happen to the 1150 .

The write off was the only bike who managed to get it classed as an accident under his insurance, As fas as i know the others were bodged. I don't know whats happened to them since. Sold

It's not something I'm going to worry about... looks very much as though the strain that caused that was solely due to the centre stand mount.

I only use the centre stand at home.
