Hello all,

I have some movement in my back wheel, I did the brake 'leaver test' and I still have movement, so I guess it's the paralever.

I did a search on here and found lots of info about these bearings. Thing I didn't find was how to adjust them. If anyone to could let me know how to do this, I'd be really grateful. Thanks.

Then I can decide if it's too tricky for me or not.... ;)

Enjoy your weekend... :o

There's plenty of stuff around...This is useful
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11349

but if you just want to get rid of the play you need to:

1. Heat up the pivot and big locknut on the LH side. This is important, some people stripped the threads cos the BMW loctite is very strong.
2. Release locknut and tighten the pivot until you feel no play left
3. Retighten the locknut at 160 Nm

If you want to do a proper job:
remove the pivot, clean the threads PROPERLY from loctite, retighten at 7 Nm. Mark the pivot and then tighten the locknut. Check if the pivot has moved when tightening the locknut. I haven't used loctite but just marked both pivot and locknut, no problems so far...

Just Replace Them!

Hi daj,
As carbold says, there's plenty info on forum on these bearings.
The only suggestion I would make is just to bite the bullet and replace them.
Mine had a bit of play at about 12k, I tried adjusting and also a re-grease, but with limited success - I think the bearings are over-tightened at the factory or not properly greased - or a combination of both? so by the time you have a problem and try to adjust them their already goosed :( ,
I finally replaced mine at 19k and was very careful to grease fully and adjust properly.
The bike has now done 74k and the replacement bearings have therefore now done 55k and have never been adjusted or re-greased :) .
I also used the link which carbold has provided - it makes a simple job out of what BMW make into a major job  - I also didn't Loctite the adjustable pin - as suggested in the link article, and, although it's never needed adjusted, it's also never slackened-off :)

Cheers..................Grizzly

If you do decide just to tighten, bare in mind that the locktight cools quickly. When torquing up you will need to give it more heat just before otherwise you will be torqing against the locktight! :thumb

Don't bother using loctite. I don't, and have never had any come undone.

BMW have shares in the loctite business :D

I just put a small mark with a permanent marker across the pivot/locknut/paralever and check it every now and then to make sure all the marks are in line..... Mines never come loose :thumb
