i know i have to heat the bearing but can somebody tell of a decent bearing puller to do the job with thanks its the big one not the taper andy
how to get crown wheel bearing off which puller

Or a couple of metal wedges
rotated around the bearing while tapping with a blunt instrument 
( which is the way of doing it at the roadside in emergencies, couldn't take pictures and hit the bearing at the same time for the ADV thread)

Hi Andy,
Did you have to shim the bearing against the housing ?...if so, how did you do it. The repair manual method uses a special measurement ring, do you know of another way of doing it ?

I cut one off using a dremel, very carefully. Didn't bother with any shim stuff, other than just putting on the new bearing and I seem to remember an original shim (memory not so good as I did it a couple of years ago). the bike (it was mates, not mine) is stll running OK.
