how to get rid of mc afee

My subscription is about up with Mc afee
and its giving me problems any way with the anti spam filter getting so big its sapping my processor.
I have tried to remove through control panel with XP but refuses to remove two elements of it ,they are heading undifined and security centre
you can start the removal of undefined and it says it removing it but just hangs ,tried several times. have also tried just removing the Mc afee file from programme files but it wont let me do that either

just a word of advice. Once you've removed McAfee, DON'T make the mistake of installing Norton instead !!

Are you all doing "stuff" that i dont, or visiting "sites" that i dont
Seriously though have i just been lucky or is it something more sinister like ...... errrr ...... mmmmmmm.......... Norton is reporting my surfing habits/times to the Internet Police or worse, my mum ??
Fully expecting to get shot down in flames but genuinely interested in your feedback...........

You have been lucky
I had 1 year of misery with Norton McAfee crap
I've now used AVG free for 7 years now { along with 100's on this forum} and NEVER had a problem.
It updates DAILY and never fails to kill anything that tries to get at my 'pooter.
I'm seriously thinking of buying AVG pro @22 quid [$40.00}

It's very resource-hungry, and slows down your PC quite markedly. It also misses stuff that Avast and AVG pick up easily.

i've used avg pro & could not really see much advantage over the free version. IIRC it has scheduling and other such non essential features.

if you want a better AV, and don't mind paying, get NOD32 or kaspersky.

Both Norton and Mcafee slow down your machine, and can be a complete pain in the @rse when downloading files and installing programs, and if you think it's bad with XP they are even worse coupled with Vista.
The very first thing I do on a new system is to uninstal them and install AVG or Avast. More trouble than a house full of mice.

Have never noticed it slowing the computer(but then if ive allways had it then i probably wouldnt notice the difference.) One night this week i will take off Norton and whack on AVG and see it any little nasties pop up.
Also how do you highlight someone elses quote when replying to a post ??

press quote and the text you want to highlight appears already in reply box, then type under it like I'm doing now
pressing "quote" marks in silver box will give you multiple highlights as I have just demonstrated

have run it but not re-booted yet but sure it will be OK now
Have installed AVG the free issue pack on all my desktop and laptop, must say so far its great,doesnt bog down the machine too much

How are you checking what effect it has on the system ?? Just by (feeling how fast the computer is doing stuff) or is there a way of actually seeing/measuring it ?

If Avg is so good, and im in no way saying it isnt(theres enough of you using it) why is it free ? I understand freeware and shareware but how are they making any money ?

i think they hope you'll get your wallet out and upgrade to AVG pro with more bells and whistles.
it's not the best AV prog, just the best free one.

Grisoft is the top virus workshop in the world, If your AVG free Programme suspects something, it sends it [ in isolation apparently ] direct to AVG and it is dedded if needs be the resulting cure is then sold to other AV product manufacturers, thats how they make money.
Given that AVG announced they have over 5 million freebie users 4 years ago, it makes a very good base for early virii catching
