Hi

Another request for help please :)

I've just received my update disc from Garmin in order to update my Quest1 from City Select Europe v6 to City Navigator Europe v8.

I've loaded it onto my PC with no problems.

I now need to get an un-lock code and this is where I'm stumped.

I have registered the Quest and created an 'account' on the Garmin web site but, wether I go via the 'unlock wizard' on my PC or direct to the Garmin web site, I can only get so far in the process of obtaining an un-lock cde and that is where it asks for the registration code which is on the 'yellow card' that should be included in all the units paper work.

I bought my unit 2nd hand and have never had said 'yellow card' but it wasn't needed to unlock the original v6 info - for this my PC just grabed the info it needed from the Quest.

Is anybody able to explain to me how I can obtain an un-lock code so that I can try and get it sorted over the w/e - if not I'll give Garmin a buzz on Monday and work out what is going on.

Cheers
Andres

Isn't the code on the yellow card that you refer to, for the CN software?

I don't think it's for the unit.

If you have paid for the V8 or got it because you were entitled to a free upgrade, the update should be recognised by the update wizard.

Were you on-line when you installed? If so did it offer to obtain the unlock from Garmin? (It isn't very clear but I was tempted to say no when it offered to get the unlock code thinking that I'd be asked for money. When I did say yes, it unlocked automatically).

V8 seems to unlock in this way (mine didn't come with a yellow card unlike the V6.5 and V7).

If you obtained your V8 from another source you may have to pay fro the unlock.

The entitlement to a free upgrade will be with the original owner of the Quest through his first registration with Garmin .If you can not get these details from him you will probably have to pay for an unlock code ..around £48..

To answer the question, the disc was sent to me by Garmin UK and as far as I'm aware I'm not entitled to a free upgrade and was fully expecting the web site to ask me for some money (fair enough) before releasing the un-lock code.
Unfortunatly, this it hasn't done :nenau

You'd have thought it would be very straight forward, i must be missing a trick somewhere (but can't think where?!?!)
