How to Play with music for free Please.

I run XP Home, what do I need to mess around easily with music?
I have at last managed to get sound from a music centre to play out of the Puter speakers (rocket science for me ) but what sort of free programme can I use to form a library, convert music to MP3, download music to an MP3 player and obviously burn CD's. I can then nod me head to music on the bike and everyone will think I'm nodding to them. Thanx.

there are a couple of options but i've been using MM for 6 years and love it ... i even bought the full version!!! because i used it so much.
