How to remove petrol stains from paintwork?

I've got several petrol drip lines down the side of my (grapphite) tank which have dried to a dull brown stain and I can't seem to get them off.

Is there a special cleaner I can use?

When I had a pub the only way to remove dried on beer stains was to use beer - it removed them a treat. Try petrol - it may work!

3M Finesse It and 3M Handglaze to finish the gloss - prior to waxing.
Please do not use Brasso or other metal polishes, they are too aggresive and tend to leave a dull film.
