Took my 29 month old 06 R1200GS into the dealers today for its 2 year'ish service inc ABS fluid change etc. The ABS had been making funny grinding noises since the Thetford Forest off road bimble a couple of weeks back! (must have been the gentle drop tests!) Mentioned this in passing, 2 hours later I got a phone call telling me i needed a new ABS pump at £1200 plus labour plus leaking gearbox oil seal which would take 5 hours labour to strip. But BMW would cover the ABS pump as goodwill but labour would be down to me. "But I have extended warranty" i cried down the phone. Oh no this was not renewed says BMW. Luckily I had kept the online booking confirmation so they have reluctantly agreed to pay for both repairs, however the fault on my Vario pannier mechanismn is not covered due to being an accessory and over 2 years old. But I bought them when I purchased the bike less than 18 months ago, eventually this is agreed to also be covered. So does this mean I wont have to pay the ABS fluid charge as they need to do this under warranty. So in hindsight the £361 I paid for extended warranty was defintely worth the money and saved £1700 and will get renewed next time around or i'll trade in for a newer model. So how is it that BMW will offer goodwill on ABS but not gearbox oil seal?

They have been known to do it on the gearbox seals as well I believe. The price of the ABS pump is ridiculous, I can't believe BMW pay that much for them.

I have the extended warranty, great value i believe.I had the same issue with the powers-that-be initially denieing that I had it in place, also bought on line think they have communication difficulties.

Those fine people at SBW have provided an excellent service, replaced ABS pump, fixed the gearbox oil seal leak and carried out the service and on top of that they even replaced the Vario Top Box with a brand new one and all under the warranty. Didn't even charge me for the ABS fluid and the great mechanic rerouted my Sat Nav and Autocom cables away neatly without even asking. Great service from nice people at SBW.
