Just as a little example of how fast values of technical wizardry can plummet, apparently the HP Touchpad was selling for £89 today, down from £400 odd, on the basis that HP declared recently that they intended to leave the hardware side of things in favour of software. This comes since they recruited a new head honcho who has a software background, and seems none too keen on actual stuff.
No wonder shares in the company they are buying, Autonomy, went stellar, 75% up in seconds, but HP's own shares are doing poorly. If I were a major shareholder in HP, I'd be suggesting the new man might be slightly wrong. Hardware profits might be poor, but taking the business in a whole new direction seems marginally speculative too.
