Design Brief

1. must not be wider than handle bars to allow getting into small gaps
2. function over form
3. easy to fix material
4. cheap

after a number of early designs most of which fell to bits, I managed to secure a supply of the finest scrap from the local tip:thumb

the rack itself is simple contruction it sits on the bike much like a passenger would, is fixed in 3 locations to the main body of the bike with a couple of torx screws and a bolt near the rear mud guard.

After an initial testing phase I had to replace the rear bolt fixing cos to put it simply it was "crap!" The torx screws while not perfect have now lasted over 900 miles of testing. I've sheared a few off while conducting simple un planned crash tests. However the designers at BMW have been very helpful the whole bike is held together with torx screws and cables ties so I just took some from another place.:thumb further testing has been suspended due to Foot-n-Marf just up the road.

Also rack had to come off cos my new Wilbers springs and shocks should be here next week...

Rear air shock has held up but did start loosing air, also front end is way too soft with the large tank full up.....

the snag with the 1200gsa or my 1150gsa are not enduro bikes so I can't enter my 1150GSA into the BTOU 2008. should have been in this years race but failed medical 3x. So have build a rack for HP

have allowed total weight of 80kg for all which includes fuel, water, my kit.

10Kg's for the rack

cut this video together from the hours and hours the race organiser sent to me... It's like a extreme duathlon london to mongolia, quick dash around then back to london...

Have you just got married :boobies

:blast minor mods still needed to the straps, the straps have been on and off more times than a brides nighty in the las few weeks.

makes it look like I'm going even faster when they come undone....:augie

might spray the jerry cans as well... not sure yet.

camping table I was thinking of cutting a hole in the top so it sould double a toilet seat for in the wilds...

or a Teppan yaki grill...

needs painting that's make it look more, well better anyway

If you cut some holes in it you could use it to transport plastic coffee cups.

erm well having just been sitting here and doing a wire drawing ... the answer is yes... or deform to breaking point.

Have asked HPN to send me details of the upgraded frame they do have also explained the idea, trip etc. and he's gone away to laugh his head off... and think about it...

can't do anymore testing at mo F-M all lanes closed in my area and don't like crashing too far from home
