Already found a practice video done just recently, see how the MegaMoto just slams away from the others at the start with raw power, the higher they get and the worse the conditions get, the better the Megamoto scores :bow

Carbed bikes lose about 30% or more of their power reaching the top because of thin air :augie

BMW factory team has 4 riders on Megamotos, MaxBMW (an US dealer) has some riders on HP2 Enduros.

Race is tomorrow. What do you reckon how they big HP2 beasts do against lightweight single cyl supermotos?

this track/road look,s perfect for the hp2/megamoto as it has lots of fairly long straights where they can accelerate away from any other bike . the singles will have no hope of catching up on those straight sections . :thumb

what bike is in front ? as soon as the road gets tight it pulls away very fast !!

go on ari

awsome in car me thinks. record hasn't been beaten to this day as far as i know. group A 405 t16 with a rumored 1000bhp:eek: so its a wonder he kept it on the tarmac never mind the loose stuff. awsome footage and one of the best drivers ever imho up there with fangio etc. :thumb

i was there

it was very cool. the hp's and megamotos were moving. the 1000 hp car almost beat the 10 min mark, talk about fast :yikes

They were all beaten by time by only one man: Davey Durelle in 750cc class.

And looks like for a reason: Davey's seems to be a cinder track speedway racer, he probably outperformed any guy on two wheels in the curves. Lost time on straights but gained again in the curves, in overall timing terms this did it 5 seconds faster than the next MegaMoto per 20 kilometre track.

In fact MegaMotos were places 2, 3, 4, 5, and then the next 750cc class rider. Proves how beneficial the cinder track experiences are there?

Anyways, looks like 750cc class bikes which was considered the no.1. wepon of choice on the Pikes Peak overall timing is about to end with the new proof of how fast the bigger 1200cc can be. Let's see what the next year will be if the MegaMoto guys are more bed in into their bikes. They've only had a month or two practice on the bikes before the race.

Lets wait for BM report.

BMW's flatten Pikes Peak Hill Climb

July 25, 2007

BMW's new Megamoto rang some alarm bells in Colorado's Rocky Mountains at the weekend by posting the fastest time for a production-based bike on the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.

The best time overall on two wheels came from American rider Dave Durelle on a 750cc prototype machine that weighed only 110 kg. He scorched up the 20km course in 11min41.

To make the ride, which starts at 2862m and ends at the 4300m summit of Pikes Peak, even trickier the course was still wet after a thunderstorm.

Second overall was a BMW HP2 Megamoto ridden by stuntman Gary Trachy who finished in 11min46 but won a new class for bikes up to 1200cc

He was closely followed by team mate Casey Yarrow in 11min49. US Supermoto star Micky Dymond finished third in class on another Megamoto while Trachy's brother Greg was fourth on a similar bike on 11min59.

Durelle, at only 1.55m tall, weighs next to nothing – in fact he and his bike together were lighter than a standard HP2 Megamoto. No rider other than Durelle and the four American HP2 Megamoto riders came close to the 12-minute mark.

German endurance rider Markus Barth swopped the track for the mountain road and finished in 12min44 on his Pikes Peak debut ahead of HP2 Enduro riders Gordon Mullavey (13min25) and Max Statton (14min31), who had driven for more than 30 hours from New England, to race at the world-famous hill climb.

There was a lot of competition in the BMW Motorsport team as to who would be fastest in the "race to the clouds" but "in the end there can be only one" and it was 2006 winner Gary Tracy who set the fastest time

'It's very difficult to complete all 156 turns without making any mistakes'
.

He said afterwards: "I improved my best time from last year by a few tenths of a second – and I'm happy with that in view of the adverse conditions. I had a lot of fun with the Megamoto on this challenging track."

Trachy's team mate Casey Yarrow was pleased with his second: "I improved last year's time by a half-minute, which is really great considering it was only my second Pikes Peak."

Stuntman Greg Trachy, older brother of the class winner, agreed: "It's very difficult to complete all 156 turns without mistakes.

"The conditions are constantly changing and there's often sand on the asphalt. At Pikes Peak everything has to come together for you to win, but it didn't today for me."

Markus Barth gained a lot of respect for the mountain race. He said later: "That was an extremely hard race and today... well, I couldn't have achieved more."

BM report, too

Megamoto shines at Pikes Peak

At the 85th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, BMW Motorrad Motorsport came, saw and conquered with the HP2 Megamoto. American rider Gary Trachy won the new class for bikes up to 1200cc in an amazing 11 minutes and 46 seconds, closely followed by Casey Yarrow (USA, 11:49). US Supermoto star Micky Dymond finished in third place with a time of 11:52, while fourth in the rankings was Gary´s brother, Greg Tracy, who completed the famous hill climb in just less than 12 minutes (11:59).

German endurance star Markus Barth swapped the racetrack for the mountain road and made his debut at Pikes Peak, finishing in a very respectable 12:44, in front of HP2 Enduro riders Gordon Mullavey (13:25) and Max Statton (14:31), who had driven for more than 30 hours from New England, to race at the world famous hill climb.

Thousands of spectators turned up at Saturday´s race to cheer on the brave riders and drivers who attempted to scale the 12.42-mile (20-km) course that begins at 9,390 feet (2,862 metres) and finishes at the 14,110-foot summit (4,300 metres) of the spectacular Pikes Peak Mountain. The first half of the challenging course is asphalt, while the remainder is hard-packed gravel. Following a thunderstorm in the Colorado Rockies, the track was still wet and therefore slippery and tricky to ride.

Casey Yarrow - 30 seconds faster than last year

There was a lot of competition in the BMW Motorrad Motorsport team as to who would be the fastest rider in this ´race to the clouds´ but there could only be one victor in the 1200cc class and it was Gary Trachy, who also won last year´s event outright:

"I improved my fastest time from last year by a few tenths of a second and in respect of the adverse conditions I am very happy. I had a lot of fun with the Megamoto on this challenging track," he said.
Trachy´s team-mate Casey Yarrow was beaming with joy with his second place finish: "I improved last year´s time by half a minute, which is really great! In contrast to most of the other people here it was only my second ever start at the Pikes Peak, so with this in mind, I am more than satisfied with my performance this weekend."

Last year´s runner-up rider Micky Dymond was the most successful of the American riders who recently travelled to Austria for this year´s Erzberg Rodeo, finishing fourth in the Prologue and sixth in the King´s Class race. However, he was disappointed with his result at Pikes Peak, although he couldn´t really fault his performance:

"I had a great run without any mistakes and I rode more aggressively in every section in the race than I had throughout practice. However my time was still six seconds slower than Gary´s... It´s totally incomprehensible for me to think about exactly where I lost time because in my mind at least I was really fast. The Megamoto is a great tool for this kind of race and I hope I can show next year that I´ve got what it takes to win."

Greg Tracy, the older brother of the class winner, is also hoping for a better result next year: "It´s very difficult to complete all 156 turns without making any mistakes," said the stuntman won the Supermoto class last year and came third in the overall rankings. "There are ever-changing conditions on the track, and there is often sand on the asphalt. At Pikes Peak everything has to come together for you to win, but it didn´t today for me. However, the bike was not the reason."

German rider Markus Barth - competing for his first time at Pikes Peak - gained a lot of respect for the spectacular 14,110-foot (4,300 metres) mountain race: "That was an extremely hard race, with ever-changing requirements, and today I couldn´t have achieved more," said the BMW Motorrad Motorsport racer who nearly fell twice and was forced to ride a little more conservatively towards the finish.

Team BMW Motorrad Motorsport at the Pikes Peak summit

The overall fastest motorcycle time of the day went to American rider Dave Durelle on a 750cc prototype machine that weighed only 110 kg. At only just over five feet (1.55 metres) tall himself, Durelle weighs next to nothing - in fact, the combination of rider and bike was lighter than the weight of the HP2 Megamoto alone! Durelle had a flawless run and made it to the summit in 11 minutes and 41 seconds - just five seconds faster than Gary Trachy on the HP2 Megamoto. Apart from Dave Durelle and the four American HP2 Megamoto riders, no other bike or rider even came close to the magic 12-minute ascent time.
