HP2 Sports First day thoughts..

Joined the Hp2 Sport owners club yesterday. Picked her up from Allan Jeffries after dropping of my trusty Yellow R1200S.

First thoughts. Its like riding a Slab of concrete, boy is it stiff out the crate. .
Find a few billiard table bends and roads and its like its on rails, nimble as a 250, but stick a few pot holes and bumps and it has you out of the seat.
Need some suspension advice setting etc. 82 kilo rider.
Seat seems hard but i think the rear shock has a lot to do with that.

Niggles aside its absolutely magic . Brakes are a lot better than the S and i suppose will get even better when run in, Engine pulls strong i get the impression it likes lots of rev's and the exhaust note on the overun is the iceing on the cake.
As usual the suns gone now for the forseeable future so its back to drooling in the garage at least it will keep me away from dreaded Derbyshire speedcams.

CONGRATS

If u are on standard settings, try backing the rear spring off half a turn - leaving everything else as standard. Makes a hell of a difference - well it does on mine..............enjoy

Another machine i loved, went to a few meets 91/92 great times.

How things have moved on can't see me goin back to classics though.

Congrats on the bike - if I knew anything about road riding, I think the Sport would be a great partner to the Enduro.

And welcome to the HP2S appreciation society. I cant help you with your suspension settings cause I’m about 120kg fully kitted and the standard settings are almost perfect for me.

Now get the beast scrubbed-in and run-in so you can give it some stick round the twisties.

Bloody hell Yonkyo was goin to PM you to see if you'd had a tweak on the old ohlins.

Now back to square one. Tried to see if the owners book settings matched and the sags way off there recommendation of 38mm rear and 32 front.

I could only get it to move about 20mm back end and only about 12mm front.

Backed off the rear spring preload as suggested by chispitas, (its the easiest) half a turn then a full turn and could still only manage 20mm sag on any setting. Didn't take it for a spin as its raining will try both when dry.

Could be a bit premature as its only 90 miles on the clock and could need loosening up.

Should i give up till its got the first 600 mile service done ?
Could eat some more pies but at 84 kilo kitted i thought i could get to factory book setting.

Think il stick with adjusting the clock on the dash, a dab hand at that now
