I need to get a left hand drive headlight (UK required beam direction) in order to get my HP2E registered. Does anyone know where I might get one and avoid the gold plated stealer prices?
Not absolutely sure that I have to change the KPH speedometer to MPH calibration, anyone know if that is required? Cant get a definitive answer from the local MOT crew.
Any help appreciated

Can't help on the headlight front, but from what I understand, MPH Speedometers are only required for MOT in the IOM. MPH markers might be a good idea for your only self assurance though :thumb

a £5 sticker kit over headlight from ebay sufficed when I imported my GS here from MOT purposes.

No need to line the stealer's pockets. :beerjug:

Thanks for the help guys, although somewhat delayed in ressponse. Have not been on line for a while.
Will try to find this sticker on ebay, what a relief. The oem part is really gold plated!
Cheers

End Result

Just in case someone else is in the same lane, here is what I had to do to get it all sorted:

Need docs from Customs to prove that the vehicle is not subject to import tax and customs duty (I have owned the bike for more than 6 months, so ok) They wanted proof like Insurance receipts, Reg docs from the country where it was regstered etc.

Also need a European Certificate of Conformity which you can get from BMW UK, Homolgation Dept.

The ECC lists 50+ points which include the information you need to fill out the forms required by VOSA in order to make an appointment to have the bike inspected by them (and they do inspect it!)

You are allowed to ride to and from the inspection station on the day of the inspection however to do that you need insurance and until you get the plate number etc. the insurance company will only insure you for 21 days using your frame number.

After you pass inspection you have to take all your docs to DVLA and they will then issue (by post 5-10 working days) your final plate number/V5 docs etc and then you can legally join the fray.

The docs DVLA requires are:
personal identification like passport and bank statement or utility bill showing your address, reg docs from the imported country, Customs clearance, the VOSA inspection certificate, the ECC and a UK Certificate of Insurance.

Points worth noting are:
If your ECC says that the speed indication is Metric you may need to either replace the speedo, instal a second instrument like a Trailtech unit or (only a suggestion) paint over the "k" in the "km" label on the speedo face plate coz nobody checks the speed indication! they only check the lettering on the face.
I had to buy a new headlight glass 165 quid, ECC 56 quid, inspection 85 quid, plates 10 quid and insurance 400 plus.
I needed about 14 days to get it all done but the insurance company was on the case and warned me after about 15 days that they would cancel my policy and I would have to start again if I went over 21 days.
The guys at VOSA were good, they checked everything, a very hefty MOT!

Spotted this somehow old thread. I am in the opposite situation (have a UK headlight in continental europe).

So, if someone needs a UK headlight for a HP2 Enduro, I have an UK spec that I am willing to trade for a continental one. Just PM me.

Thanks,

Carlos
