Hello there.
Finally got hold of a HPN tank and hope to fit it this Friday.
I have read the post by loiq, which was posted some time ago.
Anyone else got any tips or pitfalls to be aware of?

Feels like being back in the late late '80s early 1990's fitting HPN stuff to a BMW. I really can not wait, should make the HP2 a more usable machine. I so dislike the flashing fuel warning message after 65 miles or so!

Any feed back much appreciated.

tank

which tank are you using? Couldnt find it on their website unless you are adapting another one

Know what you mean:(
Had to fill up twice on the way into work this morning

Good luck with the fitting. How's about posting a few pics of your progress?

best of luck fitting it remember those odd looking rubber bits:blast still not fitted mine:augie

I've actually seen one of these rare items in the flesh today :eek:
One with Carbon trim, only 1100 of your quids:eek: because of lousy euro rate :spitfire

Looks rather good and the owner is fitting it tomorrow, I don't think he posts on here tho, so I'll take pics when I see him again Monday :thumb...
I think it will make the HP2 into the bike it should have been from day 1...

and don't forget, this is from a dedicated airhead lover

I had almost convinced myself I didn't need the HPN tank... almost forgotten about it... and then you guys have to remind me about it!! :spitfire I'm even going to have to look Lo-IQ's thread to take another look.

Would definately like to see some more pics of the tank in situ. When I saw the Touratech tanks, they really looked way too big. Also, is it true that the fuel gauge (reserve light) will no longer work? I don't always remember to reset the trip :blast

That tank has to be the single most expensive farkle you can buy!!

F***n near $3000NZ for an extra 10 litres of juice, I don't think so :spitfire And that was what I thought even before my mate Ken got the HPN unit for his HP. It looks awful, not as awful as the Touratech one, but awful all the same :blast. I'll carry an extra 5 litres if I need to, can manage between gas stations in most riding country over here. We'll be $2 a litre soon, excellent - less cars on the road then :hide

Mine stopped working before the 6k service with the normal tank. Asked BMW to check it and their response

"The computer does not give an error code so it should be ok. You should any case not put your faith in the reserve light ever"

I was least to say speechless thinking I paid how much for this and you want to tell me the reserve light is not important enough to worry about :blast Needless to say it is still not working and just can't be bothered to take it back now to get it fixed

Fitted, all is well. I can now go for a days ride, whether on road, off road or a bit of both, and just relax.

Little concerned about the oil cooler return pipe that has a kink in it now (don't seem to be able get rid of it, tried the cooler in every possible position). On the whole, other than the return pipe compromise, the finish and fit is superb. By the way Lo-IQ, I had instructions showing where those rubber bits, horn etc all should go. Although the instructions were pretty brief they did mean there was not a lot of head scratching.

I want to ride the HP2 as often as possible, truth is its range has made me leave at home too often. Is having a decent range worth what I ultimately paid for the tank? Yes, every penny, love it. For me fitting a HPN part is also a bit of nostalgia, I don't care what any of the knockers say but it feels good.

How it looks was never really a serious concern of mine, although I do think the HPN tank is the best serious option. From the side I do not think the aesthetics are compromised at all, in fact the carbon panels I opted for look rather good. From the rear it looks mean. However, I concede that from the front the tank looks awful, but hey, I rarely get that view.

He's not a subscriber, so he's unlikely to be able to post any photo's... I found that out whilst considering the Swiss bank job last weekend :blast

He can still post flickr/smugmug pics!!

What about you Lo-IQ: surely you should have some good action shots with the tank fitted :augie

I'm sure there would be no shortage of volunteers if you need help :augie

I'm thinking of getting one of these for my Megamoto. Same problem. Short range.

HPN tank

Just finished my first ride with the HPN HP2 tank installed. The bike seems to handle the same as with the stock one with 10 litres of fuel. I have no extra bits left over due to getting and instruction sheet in English:bounce1 Had to shave the bracket that holds the electronics on the right side of the bike back a bit to get it to seat properly. Had a weeping fuel line which was fixed with a cleanup on the Quick action coupler. Other wise GREAT! It looks much better in real life than any pics I have seen... :clap
