What do you recommend for a 2010 GS (when i get it.) Bike will be mainly for pleasure and will not be used for all year round commuting. Thanks in advance.:thumb

Neither - Mudsling:clap

Will protect the rear shock better and keeps the crap off the backs of your legs.

I commute all year round and got the hugger and a fender extender

Both worth it

If you go off road take the hugger off (only takes 5 mins)

Dohhh just re read that "forget it"

+1 for Mudsling. :thumb
Not only does a mudsling protect suspension and battery, it keeps your lower legs clean.
Several types about, my Wunderlich Inner Fender (as an example) is doing an excellent job.
I had a hugger before, that did the job too, but a hugger increases the unsprung weight, and can rattle (depending on fixtures and construction).

Fit the mudsling. We fit loads and it fits spot on . Huggers are a complete waste of time and do nothing apart from amplifying road noise. Haven't seen a decent one yet:aidan

+1 Mudslinger

Fitted one on my 2008 R1200GS, in seconds and it works great. I am new to the BM and in my view the best choice

....

Ilmberger carbon hugger if only road riding, Mudsling if any off road use :thumb2

Don't buy a Pyramid hugger! The plastic blade parts company with the tin bracket in weeks - £120 worth of tat!

+1 and the bottom rubs the finish off the final drive where it touches AND it rubs against the rear brake banjo where it fits to the caliper!!

Maier Rear Splash Guard

First post for me.

I've recently swapped my R1150GS for a 1200. I read the advice on here about huggers v splash guards and went for the Maier Rear Splash Guard.

The splash guard including shipping cost $88.63 + the import cost £17

From here: http://www.iliumworks.com/Store_Detail.cfm?ID=229954&InfoID=5919

It fits like a glove, I'm very pleased with it and like everyone else wonder why BMW don't fit these as standard.

Thanks to all on here who provided the good advice. :)
