hugger

They do a good job of keeping the shock clean but the low pressure area around the back wheel sucks crud forwards and eventually out over the rider's legs. The shovel keeps muck off the numberplate but throws even more forwards. a hugger that goes right back to the shovel should trap the crap where it starts.

It wont of course be any good on muddy off-road trips, but most huggers wont either.

Following my mate on his GS the combination of splash guard thingy and number plate seemed to do a good job of containing the spray. Before I saw it in action I thought the splash guard was just an ugly styling "feature".

I agree the mudsling does seem to draw crap forwards, to either side. It gets all over the swinging arm torque arm. But better there than on the shock, especially with all it's electronic gubbins.
