I want a hugger for my 2000, X reg 1150GS.
I dont want to pay £180 for a wonderlich one, and was wondering
A) What option there were?
B) Did anyone happen to have one going?
C) Do you need to removed any parts permanently to get them too fit, particularly thinking of the little mudgaurd?

I know Pyramid do one, is it any good? I have the non ABS, so understand it should fit ok, but what i really want is some good picies of one or others fitted.. and rating on effectiveness.

To me a hugger is a good investment, but just cannot afford to roll out too much dosh on one yet..

I have a Wunderlich one which I one in last years Princetown raffle. they look good but are bloddy useless. I still get loads of dirt thrown up and inevitably after rain the top visible part of the hugger is covered in filth so they are very ineffective .

Ouch

£180 worth and it dont work..

Thats crazy.. i was expecting people to rave about them.
Hmm i am not happy paying £97 for the pyramid one..

Anyone able to comment if they are any use??

i think it sold..

Seem me was too late again.. looks like it sold..
Nice to get a piccy of it, though!..

Hmm so Pyramid is cheap and naff, and Wundlich is costly, looks ok, but effectiveness is lacking at little..

Are there any other options?

Rocks, I have the (crap) pyramid hugger but i can tell you it works for me.It keeps the dirt down and does not get covered in filth as Gecko finds as for messing about with caliper
fittings,undo 2 bolts remove/fit hugger/refit 2 bolts hmmm:confused:
up to you ,looks or somthing that works;)

Bucket and sponge................

What's the point of a street style Hugger on an off-road style bike........if it's going to get dirty............you might as well be able to get at everything to clean the crap off............

Have a hugger on mine, a 'crappy' and 'cheap' Pyramid one but not in :ymca carbon, it sure keeps the shock and swing arm clean but if you remove MBW's version of a hugger you can never keep your other hugger looking anything other than crap. :(

I think my MBW placcy one is going back on, oh well somewhere to keep the GB sticker I s'pose.

Oh and just for the record the Touratech mud flap thingy is crap too :( :(

So in short, the only one that comes close to working is the ugly, OE thing showing that once again MBW are the masters still of function over form or style :D

well said JB, I was thinking of fitting a hugger some months ago until seeing what was on offer, the Touratech item was the only one that looked halfway decent, however with any of them if the crap does get past they make things bloody akward to clean.

Spend the dosh on some other trinket

I've got a farbon khyber pyramid one, I'd probably recommend going for a standard plastic one...............

Huggers: want one, which one???

I'm with Martinc.d on this one it does the business fot me !!!

Hugger or is that cr*p spreader?

My bike fitted with hugger, friend's bike without. We rode an identical route in the Borders region, much muck, cow sh*t and general detritus. His bike was much, much cleaner than mine at the end.
I no longer have a hugger fitted, I gave it away.
Got it fitted yet Grizz?

I think 180 quid is very reasonable for a hugger if she wears fishnets and goes like s duracell bunny.

if NOT why the :GS:GS:GS:GS would you want a shit catcher on a GS- fcuks sake, buy a different bike

Thats what I meant to say

mine is covered in crap and even had lumps of mud on the screen and strangley enough it continues to function....

Which one??

My comments on the huggers was made from what i was told,, so
at risk of upsetting more people...

So.. pyramid is cheaper and some people recons works and others say its not worth it.

The reason why i want one int he first place,, is for one simple reason. Protecting the rear shock from road salt and grit.

I dont mind a bike getting dirty or plastered in mud, but i dont want the shock getting nackered before time.
All my previous bikes had huggers and they were great at limiting the spray of crud around the bike. I dont go off roading, well ok i have only had the bike a few weeks, so not really planning to off road, may be an odd green track/single lane, but i am not planning to carving up hills on it.

I just want to keep some of the spray off the back of my legs and the keep the shock in condition.

I've got the plastic pyramid one and it does what you want if you leave the original cat flap on too.

Just a word in praise of the Touratech thingy, if you meant the bit that goes under the numberplate. It stopped the rooster tail of S*** over the top box so was was £11 quid well spent in my book!

Well, for what it's worth, I'd suggest you save the money reserved for a hugger and put it towards a rebuildable shock. It's likely the OE shock will stop working properly and need replacing (unless you like no damping) long before it rusts or seizes. The OE ones don't last any longer than anyone elses, but they aren't rebuildable - unlike many others.

We hear a lot about Ohlins on this list - what about WP, Technoflex or (even) Hagons. Anyone got Alfs fitted to their oilhead GS?

Cheers, Norman

Got my hugger from pyramid it was from a poor batch so cost about 40 quid... covered in crap it looks as good as any other. (in fact you'd never know it was'nt 100%)

Give them a call and ask if they've got any more...

re the touretech numerplate flip thing... I don't run one because I like my number plate dirty

K1200RS

I have been offered a second hand Pyramid plastic hugger for a K1200RS, will it fit the GS with a bit of trimming?

I am told it mounts in the same points, but brake lines need a trim..

Any ideas? Cheers.

OOPS

Sorry lad/ladses,, not the brake pipes.. but the plastic needs a trim to accept the brake line.. otherwise stopping is gonna get interesting..

Any comments handy..? Cheers All..
