The website Horizons Unlimited is for long distance motorcycle travellers. They hold meetings all over the world, where bikers meet up for a few days, have a few drinks and laughs together. The central idea is to exchange information, and this is mainly done by lectures on travel, puncture repairs, getting published, 1st aid, getting the bike shipped etc.

I was at one in Ripley, Derbyshire (incidentally UKGS'er are having a meet at the same pub this year-great venue) and all the famous bike-writers were there giving lectures-Ted Simmons, Lois Pyrce, Sam Manicom etc etc. It was a fantastic weekend, so for anyone with the time, I heartily recommend it. I have no connection with the organisers but would like to see it well promoted, so please pass on the word .

They may well be looking for speakers, so folks like The Celt.....dont be shy, and for people like Aidan there'll be tons of advice (though you may be away at that time?)

Hope to see y'all there.

Looking forward to it....

xtdrew, of the site is one of the H.U blokes who is behind this event.

I plan to be there if I am about :thumb2

The also have a great series of DVD's out. I got the latest one just before Christmas and I spend today watching the first disc.

A HUMM is what Austin Vince organises in the pyrenees - on or off road treasure hunt.

You are referring to a HUBB meeting. And I agree, they are well worth a trip.

Latest HU DVD good value.

+1
Have been to 2 in Ripley & one in Morocco  (imho Morocco was a much nicer location :D)
Well worth going to just to see what others have done / are doing, sorta a 'live' ride report. But if you're thinking of really travelling on the bike they're essential. There's workshops & talks on everything from road-kill barbeques to how to fund a RTW ride.

Details of Enniskillen should be here in the not too distant future :JB

I thought it was about these wee dudes..................:D

The bike will be well gone by then Brendy, but I will still be around until the 7th of June. If all goes well I will try to get a run over. :thumb2

Horizons Unlimited Ireland meeting

Oh dear we have been outed!!

Drew (xtdrew) of this church and meself (Liam) have taken on the task of organising this inaugural Horizons Unlimited event on 28/30 May. We have found a great location about 3 miles outside Enniskillen and plans are advanced (not well advanced ..that would be overstating!!!!) for camping, food, hall facilities and rideouts.

If the moderators consider it appropriate we will keep you informed of plans, most importantly when the registration page is set up on the Horizons site (see link above) and hope that a lot of UKGSER members will turn up for the craic.

We have been trying to contact The Celt to plead with him to give a wee talk. Anyone help us with a contact number?

Any other suggestions for other local well traveled boyos who could put on a wee slide show and talk about their bike travelling experiences? We had hoped Geoff Hill could be there but he will be off on a wee jaunt round Australia at that time!!

Brendy: despite all our efforts to meet up at Ripley last year it just didn't happen. Too many distractions! Hope you can make it to Enniskillen and sure why not head over to the Ripley get together a few weeks later?

Aiden what have I missed? Do I gather that you are off on a wee trip in June? I am probably the last person to know (as Peter said to Iris!) as I haven't been on the site for a few months. Tell all.

shure you'd be an honoured guest Jockser. Maybe time for you to step up and speak to your fans? How about a talk on organising rideouts?

And delighted to hear the big lad (Aiden) is off to see the world. Just back from Patagonia meself so there is a lot of world to see.

If we can inspire even one person to take the plunge (and it ain't THAT difficult) after the meet, then it will be a success.

If moderators don't object I would urge all to check out Horizons unlimited site these cold winter nights to stimulate the imagination and learn what is in everyone's grasp!

Here Here Brendy,

The last meeting at Ripley was One of the most informative and informal bike weekends I have had since I first threw me leg over. The organisers Grant and Susan Johnson put together areally interesting line up of speakers that cover every aspect of adventure biking.
Highly recommended,

PS .Is that the same Brendy I met at the first aid talk.

Cheers Ken.
