Has anyone done the HUMM on an F8?

I'm hoping to be in possession of my new F8 in a few weeks and am thinking the ride to the Pyrenees will be a lot more comfortable on it than my Tenere but I'm worried it might be too much of a handful for this off road novice when I get there. Reports suggest it isn't technically difficult but most photos show much smaller bikes blatting around the trails. I've bought the bike to be used as BMW intended but I really don't want to wreck a brand new bike.

Doing the Patsy Quick stage 1 cse this week on a 690 KTM so I should get an idea whether I'm up to the challenge!!

So, anyone????

Yup we did the humm last year on the 800gs and had a great time.

Can even see Sas crashing an f800gs @ 50secs in ....

Were heading back again this year but weve swapped the GSs for DR350s (not really swapped but bought extra). The GS is very capable (with some additions like a strong bash plate) but the problem is the extra weight/bulk. In 30 degree heat a 190kg bike becomes very hard work especially for a novice who will drop the bike a couple of times.
TBH wed already signed up to go back on the GSs this year and the DRs are a last minute decision that wed been thinking about for a while. Id say go for it on the GS but be aware some of the trails will be outside yours and the bikes abilities.

Hope this helps
Steve

We have the HUMM pencilled for next year on the F8, though I'm still undecided between the road or trail option. I'd be riding 2up as well :comfort

I'd say go for it, if a trail gets too gnarly, turn around, there's so much to explore out there you'll hot have to go far before you find something passable.

Patsy'll get your confidence up in no time, list to what she says, she's awesome! :thumb2

Thought it was Horizons Unlimited event...

She will put her back out lifting a bike like that. REVERSE LIFT, using legs & keeping back straight...ow well

I've got to disagree with you mate. The reverse lift is not the best way. I've damaged my back that way and had pains for over a year. The method the lady in the video is teaching I find to be the best for my back which sadly have become fragile after the damage. With this method you get more leverage and it's easier to lift the bike. But you're right about using the legs and having a straight back. In that she's failing.

That's cool, for me when I ditched my F8 & the bike was on an incline. I lifted it as she did & bent my handle bars slightly, not impressed!! Anyhow a bmw dealer kindly added a strap & managed to bring it down to a more un-noticable status.

Each to their own :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

As it looks like I won't be able to get my new bike for another 2 weeks I'll be taking the Tenere, just can't face dropping a brand new bike.

From what I've heard this will be the last HUMM, at least in the Pyrenees.

Patsy Quick stage 1 cse was a great day, learnt loads and feel much more confident off the Tarmac now, so hopefully won't need the tips on picking up bikes:thumb

I'm undecided on which bike to take - maybe the Husa or maybe the Xchallenge.

One of our team is taking this:
