Good Morning All,

So a few months ago, I got overexcited and purchased a 701 off a great member here, who was selling up due to poor health. It's a bike I've always wanted, and was local, so I did so without checking insurance quotes, and whilst my insurance for my KTM 350 and my R100 are reasonable, the quotes for me for this 701 are £3k+, I waited a few months incase it was a blip but alas they've not fallen, so I must sell the bike on.

The bike has not been ridden since purchase sadly and is absolutely beautiful, stacks of paperwork, two keys.

The bike was lowered with a link, I've since bought the original complete shock to take back to OEM height.

I will list the bike here for the same price I paid, of £5,000, which is a good price, and again the replacement shock to take back to factory height, £200 if you'd like it, which is what I'd paid.

I had a pleasure meeting Russ and his brother, and he loved his bike and was pleased it was going to go to someone who would make the most out of it, which sadly I can't.

Copy from his advert here:

Sadly, due to recent ill health, I am unable to ride and must sell my 701. 15k mileage through which no issues, Bike well maintained & used for what its meant for, so has trail scuffs etc. Extras include: Screen, AXP bashplate, Doubletake mirrors on RAM, Outback Motortek pannier racks, fuel cap mod, CNC rack, barkbusters, hotgrips, so ready for the trail or TET etc. TKC80s with plenty of tread. Oil and filters regularly, valve check done by KTM @ 10k.

Located in North London.

Had a few DM's but no one has bitten yes, any other takers or questions!!

To bring it back to standard height you just replace the shock? Is it easily reversible?

Yes, on the front it’s just a few bolts and you move the clamp up,

For the back you don’t actually need to replace the whole shock, but I couldn’t find a link for sale only a complete shock with the Link, and it’s just the Link you need to change. There’s a YouTube video on it and it’s quite straightforward.

It’s a great bike but why do you expect to get back what you paid for it ?
Bikes do depreciate.

Thanks.
I've been looking at 701s for a while, to replace my DRZ400, but definitely I cannot do lowered :D
I'll give a ring to my insurer tomorrow, as I will probably face the same issue you have insurance-wise (London based), and then mull it over.

Because it was only a couple of months ago I bought it and was a very good price imho

Quite! Me neither at 6ft4!

Hopefully you have better luck than me, message when you’re ready.

Sorry, but just for my own guidance are you saying that at 6'4" the bike is a bit too small for you - or is that your feeling only because it has been lowered? (And that reversing the links/installing the complete replacement shock that you have bought, would correct that?).

I ask because I am (was, before TKR X2, 6'3" and have been eyeing the 701 for a while, as an option. (BMW 650 Dakar, also). I think @er-minio has the height thing, also.

Cheers.

Hi mate, yes so I’ve only ridden this 701, in it’s lowered state, and whilst it wasn’t as low as other bikes I’ve ridden, it defo needed returning to normal for me.

So I have the part to take it back to factory height but I didn’t get around to fitting it, and given I never had it insured I didn’t make the time to do so.

Fair enough .
Looks a lovely bike . I enjoyed my 701 LR.

GLWS

Thanks chap, and yep just doubled checked Autotrader now and this price is arguably cheaper that I could ask.

Given I’d bought the bike from someone who was selling quickly due to poor health I didn’t feel right to make money on the re sale.

Cheapest listed on Autotrader is £1,250 more, a year older, and more miles

Paul,
You’d be fine on the bike put back to standard height . My 701 was very roomy .
Plus I’d recommend a Renazco seat like I had which is all day comfy and James Renazco will tailor it to your exact height /weight/inside leg .

Paul, I am 6'3".

I used the 701 when doing the Desert Rose offroad course a few years back, as I intentionally asked to be put on a heavier bike than their usual (since at the time I was only using my GS off-tarmac, DRZ came after that course) and I found it pretty much ok size-wise. And comfortable. You should be more than ok.

I wouldn't ride it lowered at all, hence why I wanted to be sure it could be reset to standard "settings".
