Hi lads, would anyone one know where I can get a bench good enough to take the weight of my gs. I have a fuggin oil leak somewhere above the cat and the ground is too cold and I'm too stiff to be arseing about on the ground.

You have a couple of options on that oil leak

Gear oil Not too bad news requires gearbox out and probably seals replaced and a wee spline lube job while in there

OR

Engine oil Not so good! Same operation as in the gearbox out but also clutch assembly and flywheel off most likely crank seal

That Jack/lift the guys are showing isn't stable enough to to do either of those jobs

Question for ya IF it is engine oil (you should be able to wipe it and smell the cat piss type scent of gear oil against the flatter less fruity smell of engine oil) are you running fully synth engine oil?

If so get her heated up to 4 or 5 bars with a run and park her on the side stand (so the oil cooler drains down while still hot). Drain the sump change the filter and get some good old fashioned Mineral 20W50 and get 3.8 litre or near as possible into her and see what happens

I've heard of a few folks using fully synth and it weeping out seals which took up again once the dino oil went in ?

pm me if you want any other info or if you are up my way I can stick it on the ramp and have a look see for ya

like farkoff said, if you intend on fixing the problem yourself, do not buy that jack, buy a ramp, a solid one! with a good front wheel clamping mechanism!

I dont think its the clutch seal, no sign of a leak aroung the split in the casings. I think it may be the gearbox or the gear shift seal. I purchased it in april and with a combination of personal shite going on I never got a chance to ride the thing properly, maybe two or three runs to work and back totalling 120 mls. It was laying up all over the summer and when i went to start riding it in November i noticed oil running down the side stand. Reading up on it I thought it may have been the oil pressure switch on top of the engine but it looks good.
I will try the changing the oil to semi or mineral and see if that helps. Theres only 24k mls on it. The other funny thing i noticed is that there was an oil weep on the front section of the engine where there are a series of allen socket bolts. I checked them for tightness and they were only hand tight. Something funny there coz I've had a few of these GS's and no issues like this.
The plot thickens!

what about the oil pressure switch just in front of the lower part if the left side cylinder??

Get a really really good torch and a BIG cardboard box open the box so it's a tube :D and then fold it flat 2 layers of cardboard Makes a WONDERFUL bit of insulation

Up on the Centrestand and lie down on the cardboard and just have a good look

and Like they say on that horrible program catchphrase "Say what ya see?" :aidan

If it's wet back from that It'll be that

Look up in at the engine above the cat with your marvellous torch and any trace of oil there sometimes the wee drain hole is clear and engine or gear oil can drip down onto the sump area and then onto the cat

Oil

She's dry as a bone there. I'll try changing the oil and run it for a week or two and see what happens. Or if I get the time I'll whip the exhaust and cat off to see what delight awaits.

Bench

Tom there is one on gumtree in Armagh for £250

Or i can loan u wee jack type like Brian pointed out for free
