I’ve been considering getting a Carpuride. Does it need hard wiring or can you power it via a USB?

I’ve been considering getting a Carpuride. I currently use my iPhone in a Connected Ride cradle but it’s not the best set up. The Connected Ride app isn’t great & now I’m reading that the new Connected Navigator is crap! I like the idea of having CarPlay & keeping my phone in my pocket & the Carpuride looks ok & I can run it from the bike’s USB. I wasn’t aware of the Ottocast until now & it looks interesting. Does it need hard wiring or can you power it via a USB?

Thanks.

I have started you a fresh thread.

It’s a topic others might have been thinking about too and, no doubt a question which might come up.

With the W702 you get 2 cables, a 12v and a USB. Please note there is a minimum current requirement for the USB (it doesnt work on low power USBs). Incidentally, the USB cable has a "step up" power supply within its cable, so it uses USB (5v) and steps up to 12v hence the higher current consumption whilst using the USB option Id guess.

Just for info from my research you need 2A USB feed to keep the carpuride going - believe for example the usb port on say the 1250 GS is only 1.5A so you would need a more meaty usb supply if you where to USB power it on a GS.

Resuming this thread as I have found out that if you permanently connect the Carpureride to the BMW spare socket, it will trick the Canbus to think it's a charger, and it will stay on, i.e. the switched life will not turn off when you turn off the ignition. Meaning it will drain the battery

I purchased one that simply slots straight to the BMW Navigator mount, couldn’t be simpler.
Used it in anger for my Norway trip, brilliant bit of kit and below £200.

Why not just get a Samsung Active 3 tablet and then you can use that and save yourself about £1k.
I bought mine from Cash Converters for £120 approximately and installed OS Maps plus OSMAnd. Download the required maps prior to travelling and it works perfectly 👍

Was that the Carpuride Smithmas? If so i believe it does not power off? You need to manually switch off. I am also thinking about getting one. At the moment I'm hanging on to a BMW Nav 5 and 6 deciding which one I like best lol.

I have seen a these Carpuride in use and it looks basically like Apple Carplay.

Also wondering if the Carpuride fits on the Four Button Cradle with the mount they can supply. Looks like it as it sticks out slightly.

Hi if you buy the 702B which slots strings the Nav prep. It does stay on for around two minutes after ignition turned off, it’s just a quirk of the Carpuride there is no other way to turn it nor is required too it works just fine.

I installed the Carpuride W702 CarPlay screen in my BMW Nine T, connecting it to the battery as indicated in the manual. It works well, but the motorcycle's battery drains. What could be the cause?"

I wish they actually provided a tiny battery that allowed the unit to stay on by it's on accord. The only thing that annoys me about this unit is that I don't always start the bike after I turn the bike on, so the unit connects rapidly with my cardo/phone, which means the phone/cardo start their android auto stuff...then you press the starter button and the bike cuts all power to the unit and it has to restart all-over again once the bike fires up.......i guess this is the reason the garmin nav units have a battery too.....
