I came off my bike this week!

Bad luck mate.... glad you are ok...
You mentioned Anakees, are they a special tyre, non oem?.. I have new Tourans, which seem ok, but are they any good?

Tyres

"....as long as you are ok,but you should ride within your and the bike limits..." How easy it is to say that and however do you find out your particular limits?? (Without falling off!) I rode with Touraces front and rear with an II50 then a 1200GS over a period of some 6 years or so, replacing them with the same tyre as required. I could not have been more satisfied, wet or dry or poor surfaces, they always felt very stable. Now my new 1200GS came fitted with Bridgestone's - BW 501 front and 502 rear. Again they feel very good, perhaps smoother than the Touraces on low speed bends. Also incredibly stable on high speed bends - and there are PLENTY of those around here. I cannot comment on how they would perform on higher/lower presures because mine are always 'to the book' and checked regularly despite very rarely needing topping up. I always replace them before they need to be.

You could try by quoting the part number shown on the US website at a UK BMW Motorrad agent ?:nenau

Sorry to hear about your 'off'
I had similar on a 125 scooter a couple of years ago. No rhyme or reason, just took a left at slow speed and slipped away in an instant. I think sometimes the road surface can be slippery with diesel etc but not obviously so to the eye or foot.
At least you're safe:clap

What a great bunch you are!

Thanks for all the positive encouragement and support guys! :thumb

I haven't been put off riding. In fact straight after the fall I had the choice of returning home or going on to work (55 miles away) and chose the later. That said, the 55 mile return trip at 5.30pm was a bit more painful as all my aches, pains and bruises had all started to appear by then!

Having parked up the bike nearby, I had a good look at the roundabout this morning and came to a couple of possibilities as to how it could have happened as I feel as was riding well within my limits but (perhaps) on the edge of the bikes ...

1) I was about 8 miles from home when it happened and it was early morning 7.50am, so (perhaps) my tyres weren't warm enough, or

2) Looking at the quality of the road in the roundabout, there are small pot holes and surface scrappings all over the area I was on. I can only think that, having entered the roundabout and cranking it over, I must have gone over a few of those bumps and scratches and it was just enough for the tyre to lose grip.

There is a petrol station (Fina) just on the other side of the roundabout so it's possible that there could have been diesel on the road too though it wasn't obvious to me.

Coincidentally, the bike went in for it's 18k service on Saturday so I took the opportunity to get a number of items replaced. Total cost was £317. Items replaced were : Rocker cover (£116), Spark plug cover (£5); Crash bar (£151) and hand Protectors (£80).

I figured I could live with the top box, gloves, and helmet damage though I did have to fork out £40 for a new Schuberth visor!

Bikes now fully serviced with a full tank of fuel ready for it's next outing! :D

Hi Jimbogs.

The Anakees are by Michelin and described as 'The Ultimate Adventure Touring tyre'. These were the make of tyres that came with my bike when I bought it.

I've been very happy with them and found the levels of grip both in the wet and dry very good.
