I got one!

Hi everyone,

Could not contain my excitement to be able to write on the site as a GS owner. I got a 1999 v reg gs in silver and it is simply the best bike I have ever owned! Does everyone of us ride with a secret grin under our helmets and a knowledge that every other biker would agree with us if " they only gave it a chance"? And my insurance with bennetts is lower than any other bike I have owned, including a Vespa!
A couple of points I would like to ask.
The yolk at the front mudguard is shocking- is it cosmetic rust or should I gt it replaced as unsafe?
There is a slight ticking sound at idle, more noticable than on my friends new adventurer. Is this common or should I get it looked a? It has done 25500, so is still young, and needs a service at 28000?

At what point does your nikname change from GS virgin to something else? I guess I must be at base 1 with less than 20 posts and under a years ownership. I also have the slight ticking at start up and asked the dealer at dorchester - they said it was entirely normal. Mine is an 03 1150 with 16000 miles. Presumably when I am technical enough to understand the ticking noise, I can move to base 2?

you've a couple of months of reading to catch up here
search your way thru common topics like yokes,screens.seats etc
fthe yoke will probably be surface corrosion they all do that sir.
ticking?its a bm. not sure, checked your oils level?
service is 6thou intervals so 24k then 30k depends on your mate and the history.

Thanks for the reply's. i guess a new name will follow whne i am a bit more confident in here...

After a quick read of the other pages, it looks like a few months might be a good investment of time. i wonder if BMW read this to get feed-back on the bikes?

I will nod at all other riders out there, even in London!
