I've just phoned my Dad to wish him a happy birthday. He's 81 today.

His brother (he's 77) is at the house and they're enjoying a dram of this

I really hope that I will be sitting getting stuck into a dram at 11 o' clock in the morning if I'm lucky enough to see eighty one :beerjug:

With your claimed affiliations Should he not be on Zee Schnapps?

P.S. Happy Birthday Ronno's Dad !

Thanks for the well wishes :beerjug:

Strangley enough, he's not a great one for the schnapps (unless there's nothing else to drink). He developed a liking for whisky when he stayed in Scotland for thirty odd years.

He also likes German wine. A lot :D Try telling old Alwin that the grape and the grain don't mix. He'll laugh at you...

Shoulda moved to Ireland and he could have developed a taste for Real "whiskey"

Grabs Coat and runs like feck for the door Shouting "INCOMING!!!!!!!!!"

The first written record of whisky comes from 1405 in Ireland,[2] where it was distilled by monks.[1] It is also mentioned in Scotland in 1496.[3] However it is thought that whisky had already been around for at least several hundred years prior. When or where whisky was first distilled is unknown and the local, undocumented beverage production during the period makes identification of the drink's origin difficult. Additionally, it is possible that different groups discovered processes of distillation completely independently of one another.

Skye asked me recently if I had one wish what I would wish for and I replied

"to teach my great granddaughter/son to ice skate with her mum/dad and gran watching"

She looked a little puzzled but don't think she realised just how many wishes I was getting into that one wish ;)

Hope Daddy Ronno has a great birthday and many more to come :thumb

On the drinks side I prefer Schnapps to whiskey, but also partial to a brew the monks do which is a particular favourite with some of the locals here :augie

Happy Birthday, Herr Kimmel.

My Dad's 83 this year. I think it was only three years ago that he completed a singing tour of Iceland with a piper and a pianist. They performed for the Icelandic Parliament and in a number of other venues. They wouldn't believe that he was old enough to have been there before when he was on Icelandic Convoys during the Second World War.

It must only be about 5 years ago since he went parascending with my wife when we were on holiday on Cyprus. You wouldn't get me up on one of those bloody things. I did manage to go karting with him, though.

He's also a Kirk Elder and the the Church Officer. He's still carrying people out of the church in their coffins. Someone said to me recently that most of the dead are younger than him.

And for anyone who thinks they might just know him....he's IPPGM for Dumfries and Galloway.....
