I am writing a DIY article into a Finnish BMW club magazine about the problem which R1150 has in the clutch line.
The line curve next to the work cylinder gets rusted.

If somebody would have a good quality picture of the rusted curve, min 1 Mb, would you be so kind to send it to me to my email.

Thanks.

Pekka

Oooh eer - where does that reside please? I think I need to get some anti rusty stuff on mine PDQ (the horse might be gone, but I can save the straw from being blown away).

Follow the clutch line from your handlebars to below the stock. If the rubber covering the metal joint is swollen, cut the rubber covering as it acts as a moisture trap, remove the rust. Not swollen then all is well and it's probably been removed earlier.

Do you mean the big casting that is the top of the frame? Or do I have to take the tank off?

King Rat, do you have the 1150 Adventure? Most of them came fitted with a stainless hose as standard. Have a look at the lever end. Is it a silver braided line? If so, your fine. Fitting the ADV clutch line to the standard 1150gs is a common mod to avoid this.
Now those silly alloy crush washers that attach the hose to the slave cylinder and rot away, that's another matter. Replaced mine with copper washers a few years back when I fitted an ADV hose to my standard 1150gs.

Hi Kenny.
Thanks for your answer. I cannot use Steptoes picture because I need a permission from the owner of the picture.

However the problem is solved. I will get a good quality picture from a BMW friend of mine.

FnF - thanks for that. Yes, mine is an Adv and has silver, polished fittings and lines! Nt done the dissolving washers though, but I expect Steptoe will have when he does the major service on it.....if not, I now know to ask him to. :beerjug:
