It's not been right since I got the bike I don't think

I thought I'd let the tank get low . . .went for a spin on Saturday, it was flashing 'fuel' . . . set off from the carpark I was in, had 47 miles to run (so it said) . . . .I hadn't gone a mile and it started dropping the miles like you wouldn't believe . . .luckily I was heading to the petrol pumps . . . by the time I had got there (about a mile from the carpark I was at) it said 39 miles!!!

I think it might need looking at . . .don't you?

they all do that.

ECU recalculates fuel range as you ride, depending on current usage. that's why it can drop unexpectedly.

on the flip side, it can actually increase your range too. on one memorable occasion, i got to my destination with more fuel than i started with

My understanding, and experience, seems to say that the light starts flashing with a miles to go value which falls like a stone until it gets to about 38/39 and then it drops steadily. I am too chicken to run mine to zero and normally fill about 25 to go.

I've had very similar experiences, indeed have read similar here.

The warning kicks in when the bike could have 50 miles left, but it then recalculates based on your riding style - mine also drops to mid 30s before it starts getting accurate, that said I've run mine down to 9ish miles... the main thing is I know I can get about 300 to a tank and work on that basis...

The main thing for me is I don't want to be pushing a 12GSA to a garage... too damn heavy ;)

Mine does the same, but i never let it run to low before filling.
Some say when it reads zero, you can still get 10 to 15 miles before
its empty.

Usually run mine to below 20 before filling and have been as low as 2. Had 4 left on sunday and managed to get 21 litres in but I take my time and always fill to the brim - it's the last litre you pump in that stops you pushing to the pumps!

Hmmmmm  interesting!! Thanks everyone.

There's me thinking it was on the blink!! still, what do I know . . . I'm just a 'bird'! :augie

Mine said 2 miles to go on Sunday! Probably teaching you how to suck eggs here, but I always reset my trip when I fill up. This at least tells you how far you have been on your last fill, and gives a little reassurance should the gauge be truly acting up.
238 miles, and I put 22.01 litres in. Thought they only had 20 litre tanks?
I try to fill up at around 200 miles, unless I have been caning it, which of course I wouldn't dream of :augie

Due to being taken to a closed down Garage by my ZUmo i did another 9 miles when it read 0,,,,anyone else done more than this?

Yes..I've been past 0 a few times......its actually pretty acurate if you trust it!:thumb

I've been past zero twice - second time I put 22.79 litres in with 382 kms on the trip - it was full right to the brim (I've drilled the neck) and the bloody gauge showed one bar down from full and within 5 kms went down another bar. It's more entertainment than my iPod.....

How do you manage to get 238 miles? I've had 220 and that was nursing it!

Dave

Shirley,The best thing to do,is fill the bike right up,then go for a ride with a gallon strapped on the back, and just let it run out. That's the only way of finding out what your bike is doing.I do it everytime I change the fuel filter on my 1100,because I never manage to get the float level the same twice (and I bet no one else does either)

MPG indication

the display on my GSA says that I am averaging 22 mpg!

the reality is about twice that, but it's bugging me when i scroll through the different displays. When new, the bike was reading high 30s, which rose to mid 40's once the bike had a couple of thousand miles on it. The figures started to nose-dive during my trip to europe in November and they continue to fall slightly. The bike has 8000 miles on it so far. If it was doing twenty-odd mpg, i wouldn't have been able to afford to do that many miles!

Patrick.

The onboard "computer" on the latest GS told me that I was averaging 52.3 mpg but told me I had no range left when the trip hit 166. I actually filled up with 215 miles on the trip and it took 19.5 litres.
The thing then quotes a range of 212 when full. It just can't seem to stay very accurate after about 140 miles. It is quite irritating to have the fuel warning on for over 80 miles.
It seems much more reliable to work with the trip and aim for 200 miles between fuel stops.
