I have ignored the signs. An almost undetectable sideways movement of my rear wheel 5 weeks ago that I could not be bothered to deal with (but did record on this forum), so soon after a new gearbox after only 700 miles. Is now a clear 3mm of slop that is visible against the disc. And a warning not ride over the weekend by the dealer. If it needs substantial surgery, (and I fear that is the case), then my BM experiment will be over. Two major component failures in 1500 miles is sober signposting even to my sunny disposition. And that will a shame as the bike is dynamically brilliant. But the trust will be irrepairably broken. All these problems were meant to have been designed out on 2005 bikes (mine was ordered in 2004 and delivered March 2005). So the problems are not fixed. 2005 bikes still fail and are retro-fitted I assume with replacement parts that are also flawed. Can't blame the dealer. But you can blame BMW's near Omerta, or at least I can, and very likely will have to. I buy a bike for fun and relaxation, not to contemplate a legal battle I can feel looming. How tedious. How depressing....

Ya gotta just choke it up to bad luck. I beat the crap outta my 12 and I ride at the higher end of the tach. The bike has 26,000 kms at the moment and no major component failure.

My bet is that once they get it right the bike will run well and you shouldn't have any more problems at least major ones. Those components your talking about are easy to repair , basically plug and play stuff... so just have a  and dont' worry about it...

OR

Just tell your dealer you don't want the bike back. See what kind of deal they'll give you. Complain to BMW ENGLAND or whoever you guys can rant to at BMW heatquaters .. get my drift..

either way I think it will work out and you will be having lots & lots of GS Miles ahead of you hp

Would love to take a broken final drive apart & have alook to see whats failing . But BMW will have to get it right as all the new range use this type drive but was the 1200 GS the first .
Rember the 1100 GS when it came out with gearboxes beeing changed in droves ,but today every one says its the best
Must say my 1200 just get's better with miles with 6000 miles on it .it's smooth quiet & the gearchang is so smooth you only just feel it
